Ok FReepers, I came home today to find a note left by a census worker stating that they would be coming back within a day or two to complete my census interview despite the fact that I sent in my form the day I got it. I'm looking for creative ideas to answer her questions and generally mess with her.
one other thing, if the census received it after a certain date, that is why you’re on a list. And they will continue to come back. It’s not the worker’s fault that the main mailing location didn’t get it in time, or maybe didn’t get it crossed off in time.
I sent it in the day I got it. They have had plenty of time to get it into their records :)
They are supposed to ask anyone in the household that is 15 or older. If she’s 14, then the answers didn’t count and they have to come back. *shrug* you’re taking it out on someone with no control of the situation.
She says, "Sir, you are required to answer these questions."
I said, "No, I'm not." [SLAM!]
1. I already sent in my form in PLENTY of time for them to get it into their system
2. They have been harassing me by phone for over a month
3. When worker was told that I was not home she persisted in questioning my daughter even after she was told that the was underage.
4. She could have merely left the note without harassing a minor.
5. Since she did, I choose to mess with her. This is not against the law if she comes to MY home to ask questions that by law I have already answered. I consider this continued badgering harassment which IS against the law.
Pretend you’re deaf.
Say loudly “I’m sorry my hearing aids are out of battery/ Can you speak up!”
Get them screaming and then say you stil can’t here them.
My true story:
The THIRD time they came to the door, I answered the door with a 12 gauge shot gun in hand and told them that I answered the required questions and they better leave me alone.
They never came back.
“When I filled out my form I listed myself and and all my family as Black Samoans.”
I pretty much did the same thing. All crap.
Correct number of people. After that, science fiction.

If you publicly announce you’re going to be a jerk, expect it to be commented on.
You choose how you’re going to respond - don’t give the information, but there’s no reason to take it out on the lowly worker.
I was merely explaining my resons in case anyone did not understand my motivation.
I’m sorry that you think of yourself as a lowly worker. Have you considered therapy to combat your low self esteem?
Every time you “mess with” a census worker you guarantee that another one will be assigned to come back and try to get your information. And the longer you make the process, the longer the census workers will have jobs. So guess who wins?
I suppose I should be kinder....they are only being good Nazis after all.

State how many people live in your home.
No matter the question, repeat that number.
Freaks some of ‘em out.
The Constitution specific a federal census every ten years. So why not comply with a few simple questions as a citizen’s obligation toward fulfillment of the Constitution?
