AT & T National Golf Tournament
CBS sports - AT&T Golf | 07/04/2010 | stylin19

Posted on 07/04/2010 2:06:46 PM PDT by stylin19a

The ATT national Golf tournament has put U.S. Flags on the flag sticks.

No problem, right ?

Caddies pull the pin and stand the flag stick upside down.

The US Flag is upside down and on the ground. ( I haven't seen the flag-stick put on the ground...yet)

CBS hasn't shown it much, just a couple of times.

The PGA should be giving these caddies a lesson.

I've pitched a B%tch to AT&T National...they said they'd pass it on.

Probably too late to matter.

Caddies hold the flagstick upside down so the flag doesn’t flap in the breeze and distract the competitors. Of all the things to be outraged about in this day and age, I’ll take a pass on this one, thank you.

How do you feel about people who wear clothing depicting the flag? You know they put that through the wash. Does that get to you too?

Just relax and enjoy life.

Well, upside down, I don't have a problem with, for golf purposes, but they shouldn't let it touch the ground. No need for that.

As far as wearing flag clothing, it's ok as long as it's not made from an actual flag.

thanks...
you can hold the sticks right side up and hold the flag and most caddies have been doing that today.

Although I’m not thrilled about it, flag etiquette has become irreversibly more relaxed in recent decades. I’m aware of the “old” rules because I was a Boy Scout and raised on Army posts, but a lot people my age (33) and younger (and even some older) just were never taught proper flag etiquette. Nowadays, you just have to judge people’s intentions with the flag, rather than their actions. I’m sure the PGA meant no disrespect.

thanks

I know the flag rule is unenforceable. A long time ago the Supremes ruled that burning the flag and wearing it as clothes falls within the 1st Amendment.

Sometimes my shorts get into a twist. If you are going to use the US Flag a a prop, ( like this golf tournament ) at least get it right.

FreepRegards

I know what you mean. I really hate seeing a representation of our flag used as bandanna for head sweat or plastered about at car dealerships, ect. But most people doing that just aren’t aware of their disrespect.

Some of you Freepers better get a life if you can’t support Our Flag rules which means it should never touch the ground then maybe a stint in the Miltary would be in order here. And I don’t care if the Flag in on a swizel stick in some cocktail it should never touch the ground. I could go on but I have to watch my BP and that’s not British Petoleum.

Well speaking of flying the flag..the other day I drove past someone’s house and they had 2 flags at full staff...one the National Ensign and the other a Canadian flag. Yep..no the Canadian flag was not flying below the American flag it was hooked together WITH it flying on the same one flagpole as if it were the back side to the US front side of the flag...
