Yeah, but they raped Indy... can’t tell if they’ve raped Flynn, though...

I’m on my iPhone and at work now.
Is one of the links on this thread a link to the new footage?

25 years between “The Hustler 1961 and “The Color of Money” 1986.

It did suck, but I went because off the novelty then of computer animation. It was eye candy before the phrase eye candy.

I am *very* happy with this trailer!

I’ve been saying that they should remake this movie for years. Just last summer I tied my kids to chairs (not really) and forced them to watch Tron.

My daughter loved it, but my son couldn’t stop giggling at the effects.

I may have to see this one in a theater!

No, it wasn’t the greatest movie, but it was groundbreaking.

That’s the thing that I keep trying to impress on my kids - it’s been remarkable to watch the evolution of entertainment. So much has happened in the last 30 years.

Does anyone remember when Jurassic Park first came out? We’d never seen anything like it.

And to think - we’ve gone from claymation and a green screen (Clash of the Titans) to barely being able to tell the difference between real and CGI.

Who remembers watching the lamp play with the ball back in 1990? (Luxo Jr) We knew we were seeing something special then.

I remember watching a documentary on the current status of CGI back in the mid-90’s. One of the geeks said, “The first person to build a program that can make a realistic depiction of hair will be rich. Hair’s hard. That’s going to take another 15 or 20 years.”

About 5 years later I remembered that fellow as I watched Final Fantasy with my kids.

So yes, I pay homage to Tron. we were allowed to see something that we’d never seen before and it was special.

Good call!!! That must be the current ‘record’.

I did read that there is a potential ‘Raging Bull’ sequel (William Forsythe, no DeNiro) in the works. That came out in 1980, so the sequel would be at least 30 years after the original.

Tron is a movie for nerds. The story is dumb, the acting is mostly wooden (not because of the actors, all of whom are great but because it was the first “empty room” movie and nobody knew how to handle that), the FX were actually pretty weak even for the period. And yet, if you’re nerdy enough, it’s a nearly religious experience.

Yeah, but E for effort and D for daring, I’d say. The current one probably can’t help but being dazzling visually. I think the story will still suck if they simply re-do the plot. It never really tied into the virtual world concept. Have you ever heard of Snowcrash?

I’d say A for daring. It was a crazy idea to start with, not only trying to be the first movie to use CG (before it was even called that) but trying to merge CG with live action. They wound up using just about every type of animation there was, including ridiculous quantities of rotoscoping. The biggest problem is nobody knew what they were doing, and they were so obsessed with the technical challenges somebody forgot to come up with a plot. I think this one is going to have more plot, it’s looking like they’re gunning for a jungle adventure story, only in Tron world.

Love Snowcrash, and Stephenson’s other stuff.

Oh, I agree about the quality grade on the daring meter, maybe I was a bit lazy about using “D for..” there.

I was thinking if someone really wanted to do a good cyber thriller, Snowcrash would be the ticket. Even has that noir detective angle (along with having the hero be a master samurai swordsman in cyberspace, so lots of ‘Kill Bill’ cyber footage).

Snowcrash would make a great movie. Very cinematic, lots of fun.

OH, PLEASE. I didn’t get it then. I doubt I will get it now. The original Tron was lame and boring. This looks just as lame and boring.
