Just wondering, as strange as it may seem, if there are any Freepers working for the Federal Gov't willing to answer some simple questions about it. I've been approached about the possibility of working for them and am weighing it.
I worked two decades for military/General Services Admin contractors. That was about like working for the FED.

Go for it. In this economy, you can’t be too picky, if you are job hunting.
United States Postal Carrier here.
For the amount I pay in taxes it sure feels like it.
My mother heard it at the Philly Naval Yard. :)
Just make sure you’re a registered Democrat....and that your local Congresscritter (D) understands his retirement acco...oops I mean “campaign fund” will get his 25% cut....and you MIGHT be surprised at what happens....
Not me, I have a REAL job at General Motors...
I did. It was one of my worst moments of my life. The philosophy was one size fits all. I had never in my life met a so many ignorant assholes with whom I had to work.
I guesstimate that it takes the taxes of about 25-30 workers in the private sector to pay the salary of one federal employee.
Bump
Pros: good pay and benefits, good job stability
Cons: Mindless and often boring work, stupid people often in charge because they match some federal quota, super slow pace at getting ANYTHING done, tons of mindless paperwork that no one will ever look at once it has been done.
I quit because of the latter.
You bumping my taxes or bumping them down? /s
You bumping my taxes up or bumping them down? /s
fixed
Crumbs. Last I heard you were safe in a mental institution.
Were you to be sized for “The last suite you will ever wear?”
No, just agreeing with your post. Obama will up your taxes.
30 years DoD. Whattaya wanna know ?
Read my tagline.
The red shirts and the Cartwright wives were about even in mortality rates. A Cartwright girlfriend had a better chance on surviving but not by much. Her survivability rate was greatly enhanced if another guy showed matrimonial interest in her.
I wouldn’t want to put the kibosh on your chances at that grant, so I won’t tell anyone else of my findings. ; )
Looking back, I don't think my experience was much different from anyone in the private sector who works for a large inefficient and ponderous bureaucracy. Recognition and advancement is largely a matter of good work, personality, political (office politics) gamesmanship, and perceived as being smart. I like the mobility, friends and public service idea, but resented affirmative action, political appointeees and (generally negative) public perception of government employees. I also was in the field, as they say, not in Washington DC where the money would go further and the B.S. spread less thin.
We are blowin it. We should all retire and let the Gov. ee’s work to pay for our fun.I want them to do all the work and pay 99% taxes and pay me to play.
