They buzzed US ships off the Arctic coast of Russia.
I suspect they were reminding the navigator that the three mile limit is close by. Our navy would do likewize in a similar situation.

I remember when I was in the Navy we would see Soviet aircraft fly over our ship regularly. It happened so often we would think nothing of it...

The Soviets know that with Hussein in charge they have *nothing* to fear from the United States Armed Forces.

I don't remember the distances, but I remember seeing several Tu-95 Bear bombers up close and personal on a Westpac cruise in 1983....

They were probably looking for a place they could bail out of their flying tractors and make a dash for asylum in the US...

I’m not sure what these silly cold war games of theirs hope to achieve. Its not as though we don’t know they’re coming.

The P-3 Orion (Il-38’s carbon copy) is 5 years older. Putin will maintain his military.

We had a Bear pass overhead so low I could see the stenciling on the panels. He cleared the mast. I don’t know who was more surprised, me or the pilot.

Used to happen all the time during the cold war. No big deal, just launch the alert fighters to intercept while the planes are still hundreds of miles away.

You’re right.
It only meant something if the Taylor lit something off. The purpose of the game was to get the other guy’s ship to light off a radar or send off an Oh$h!ogram that can be subjected to analysis.
