Check out the new trailer for the Coen Brothers' True Grit

Well, your wait, if you were waiting, is over.

The trailer for the Coen Brothers' TRUE GRIT has been released. Thoughts? It's a good lookin' trailer. However, that song instantly drove me insane. The whole time I was like, "When will this fade out?" Maybe something instrumental would have been better? I might be alone in this thought.

Other than that, it's really my only complaint. It also reminds me of how bad ass and manly John Wayne was. Then again, so is Jeff Bridges, who from the looks of this trailer slides comfortably into the role of Rooster Cogburn. The Coen Brothers look like they have another wonderful film on their hands...and it's a remake!

What do you guys think? To check it out in HD, head over to Apple trailers.

Official synopsis:

"Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross's (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him -- over his objections -- to hunt down Chaney. Her father's blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man."

{Link at site} Maggie looks too young/sweet, but I think if I don't compare it to the original it might not be too bad. :)

I agree. They must have run out of ideas if they have to do a remake.

Have you ever read the book. Very slim volume. Very oddly spoken English. Did anyone ever speak like this in real life?

There is NO way that the original film can be equaled. It was one of the finest westerns ever made.

Read it in high school, but I don’t remember the specifics of it. One of my all-time favorite Westerns though. :)

Matt Damon as the Texas Ranger? Gotta be better that Glen Campbell...

I don’t think remakes are a good idea for the quirky, unique movies the Coen Brothers produce.

Better to stick with new ideas.

It DOES look good! Of all people, Jeff Bridges would not have been my first choice for Rooster—but it just might work!

I’m still upset at what happened to Glen Campbell’s character in the original—I had such a teenage crush on him, and cried and cried! :*(

In the original novel she was fourteen, unlike Kim Darby in the 1969 movie.

Looks like good choices of actors to play the characters. If there had not been an original, it might be a great movie; however the original is superlative (with the possible exception of Glenn Campbell, who seems miscast).

There was no reason for a remake.
