Top 10 TV Shows of All Time
catalogs ^ | July 6, 2010

Posted on 10/15/2010 9:08:27 PM PDT by JoeProBono

"Any top ten list is bound to be subjective, but this one has criteria: to make this list, a show must have longevity (Sports Night was great, but didn’t last), staying power (Three’s Company was funny, but hopelessly dated), strong writing (hopefully self-explanatory) and memorable moments (there’s a good reason that the final episode of M.A.S.H. was until very recently the most watched show in television history). Here are my choices, and let the debate begin."

MASH would be my only top 10 choice. Maybe All in the Family and SNL in its first couple years might make my top 100. I could never stand watching Seinfeld, West Wing, Cheers, or Dick Van Dyke.

The first 4-5 years of MASH and All in the Family were great.

Can't have a top ten list of TV’s best without including The Honeymooners, Andy Griffith Show with Don Knotts, Twilight Zone, CSI with William Peterson, Law and Order through Dennis Farina and my #1 pick, Gunsmoke.

OTOH, there is no accounting for taste.

All in the Family hasn’t aged well. Norman Lear was too heavy-handed inserting his politics in the show, and now it’s boring to hear Archie and Meathead argue about some long forgotten issue from the 1970s.

How about the Prisoner? First season F-Troop (esp. those directed by Charles Rondeau). Any episode of Hogan’s Heroes directed by Gene Reynolds (who also did MASH). Black Adder. I don’t agree with many of those on the top ten list. I agree with most of those on your list Pissant.

Dick Van Dyke is #7 on his list.

Laugh-in? Funny for the two years it was relevant, but its so dated now its just an anthropological curiosity, My Three Sons went about 4 years too many - when you introduce a new kid, the show is doomed. Red Skeleton, never got into it, never found it funny. Isle of Lucy, good, not my bag, but much better than the Lucy Show and brilliant compared to Here’s Lucy.
