Coach Joe has the respect of a nation. He did it right. Always polite and deferential and appreciative of his opponents. He understood the game to be of by and for his players.
Probably time for Joe to go—out on top and loved by many.
Joe stands as the best of sports—and life.
A Hawkeye
,
Joe has no Sam Gilberts. Sorry. Wooden ran a corrupt basketball factory in Westwood. He graduated no one and monies poured in to pay for his player’s cars, apartments, girlfriend’s abortions, etc. This went on for years.
Joe had a rough go a few years ago where some players were getting in fights downtown. Fistfights, not gun fights (like at FSU).
His response was to force the players to help clean the stadium every Sunday morning.
John Wooden may have been a great man, but he was also a hypocrite, and he didn’t coach “amateur” basketball anymore than Red Holtzman did.
BTW. PSU has never been put on NCAA probation in the history of the University in any sport.
Yes!
In the 250 year history of Penn State and the 61 years of Joe as head coach, not one thing has ever been done that violated the rules. I think I’m tempted to renounce Christianity and worship at the Penn State shrine along with you... NOT!
You obviously deify Coach Paterno, I do not.
I love him but realize he is not a god.
You obviously don’t appreciate Coach Wooden, I do.
Sorry I can’t wish you well in your character assassination of a beloved American icon.
