Fun on Christmas...Vince Flynn books: Who would play Mitch Rapp?

My kids woke us up at 3:45am...yep, that early. Got up at 6am, done with presents and breakfast by 7:30.

So I'm having fun now before my nap.

I'm really reading Vince Flynn books voraciously now, and know we need a Mitch Rapp now in our country. That aside, I was talking to my wife (who hasn't read the books), and she is a big movie buff. I asked the question, ok, Mitch Rapp is olive skinned, black hair, and the first movie they'll do likely will have Rapp in his early forties/late thirties...we figured Gerard Butler could do it w/out the accent.

Well, that's my take, any thoughts out there and any ideas when the first movie will be out and which book they'll use?

Also, wishfully I hope they don't destroy the book like they did with the Bourne series and make it about conservatives and military being the bad guys.

I envy you in that you have the whole series in front of you, lol. I, too, fervently wish that there really is a Mitch Rapp arm to our government. Sadly, I don’t think so.

I guess the wife and I don’t follow the younger crop of actors - I couldn’t even hazard a guess.

Once you have finished the Vince Flynn (Mitch Rapp) books, I recommend the Brad Thor (Scot Harvath) books. Just make sure you read either series in order - it’s less confusing that way.

I’ve checked my calendar for the next few months. Turns out I’m free to take the role. IF they can program Mitch to be an overweight 68-year-old balding guy.

Having had the misfortune of buying the Athena Project I am going to have to say that Thor has lost me. Flynn’s most recent release was an improvement over his last works but the characters are getting stale.

Clancy’s latest??? Don’t waste your money.

The guy who’ married to Melanie Griffin. Banderas, or whatever.

In an obvious difference of opinion, I thought The Athena Project was excellent.

Banderas could LOOK the part, but he’s a big time commie and a huge fan of “Che”. It would make me gag to see him play Mitch.

Nope, there is only one guy who could pull off Vince Flynn. It's Oded Fehr. Flynn has dark hair and brown eyes, which allows him to easily blend in among the Mideast population.

Oded would be PERFECT in this role. And he's Israeli. :)

Wow, thanks for setting me straight. I didn’t realize that. He’s out. How about that black guy on Criminal Minds? Clearly it would take a change in the character. But, I really like that guy — he’s serious without being a jerk.

The Daniel Silva series about Gabriel Allon is one of the best I have read.

Let me add that he learned Farsi for the Showtime mini series, Sleeper Cell. He was absolutely amazing as a terror cell leader.

I like it. I was going to say Jim Caveziel.

Jim would require serious make up, much like he got for the Passion. Oded is ready, out of the box. :) If you haven’t seen Sleeper Cell, I highly recommend it.

Silva is the best. His books, with the exotic locales Allon finds himself in, would make great movies. However, I doubt you will ever see Hollywood make a hero out of an Israeli Mossad agent who makes it a practice of taking out Muslim terrorists. (unless it an extremely hot female former agent who suddenly finds herself working for NCIS) Maybe they could start with one of the books he was chasing old Nazi’s, that might pass the PC test.

Yes, The Athena Project was a disappointment to me because the verious themes were so scattered, but it finally came together. Daniel Silva is far and away the best.
