“You may all go to Hell and I will go to Texas!” — Davy Crockett

My wife’s from NJ and she couldn’t get here fast enough. Houston is an awesome city with some of the best doctor’s in the world.

As long as you are willing to work, we welcome you! Those of you unwilling to work may now return to New Orleans. Please!!!!

Learn how to speak and understand the Spanish language!!!!!!
It wouldn’t hurt unless you are going to settle in the woods of the Panhandle.

If I were ever forced to move back to TX, west TX hills is the only part I’d consider.

I have looked into Idaho. It is supposedly the most conservative state. The weather (temperature) in the Boise- high desert area is like ours w/out the snow. I have a friend who is a former Newark cop who lives there & he loves it. They don’t even have snow plows. The cost of living (taxes etc.) is a fraction of ours in Jersey. Look into it you may like it.

Montana is full! :)

At minus 8 degrees currently, I'll bet all y'all are packed inside too!

Well, let’s hope you’re never forced to. Bless your heart.

TX or FL.

We like both states very much, but both have scary intangibles....Florida can have horrendous property taxes, and homeowners insurance can skyrocket at will, with the possibility of you being unable to obtain it.

Texas property taxes can be a concern; from what we understand various districts can (and often do) do as they please.

[Don’t come to NC.]

...same for SC, we went from a solid red state to a lavender state and for the same reasons as NC.

I would go to Texas, I haven’t been there but hear good things. They may be the closest to a strong independent state, but all 50 are in the same boat.

Austin is beautiful. I hate that the “Keep Austin Weird” crowd has taken it over.

I was told that Franklin County, Virginia, was the moonshine capital of the world, but I don't know if that is still true.

Or if it ever was--the guy who told me lived in one of the neighboring counties.

I’d choose the liquid state. Solid would be boring, and gaseous, well that’s just wrong!

Seriously, If I were 60 years younger I would go back to ALASKA, TODAY.
As long as you were a person that didn’t need things handed to you, you would love it.
Another reason is, with exception of Hawaii. it is as far away as you can get from DC and still be in USA.

Stay in New Jersey and fix your own state.

Tega Cay is like a suburb of Fort Mill. ;-)

Heh.

You should see the build-up they are doing these days around the Springfield golf course!

The Austin suburbs are still nice ... Round Rock, Georgetown, etc. Austin-proper is a fruit-basket.

Then again, Houston has its weird locations too — Sheila Jackson Lee’s district is a slum; Montrose is the gayest district in the country outside of San Francisco (full of porn shops, vagrants, and tattoo parlors).

Again, keep to the suburbs. Downtown Houston is nice enough, venture 10 ft. outside of down town, and you’ll want to be armed.
