Hey, hey, we all know you’re from Baghdad......

:-P

Baghdad is where I earn my living.

Texas is where I do my living.

I am in "earning" mode at present. ;-)

Ha. Spin. Why can't I get the image of Rahm Immanuel out of my head?

:-)

von Braun not Oppenheimer. Huntsville is known as the Rocket City. Lots of high tech companies.

Well, with a sane government, coastal Southern California would be the easy winner. And Hawaii would deserve serious consideration.

But after spending most of my life in California I can say that Scottsdale, Arizona is the best place I have ever found for a successful, conservative-to-libertarian minded citizen to live. Weather is perfect (the relatively small number of 115 degree days keeps the bum population to a minimum), no earthquakes, no snow, economy isn't great but not horrible either, housing has corrected to a fairly affordable level, and Arizona is about the only state in the Union that seems to be getting more conservative in the Obama era.

Re: North Dakota & Wyoming

North Dakota is “moderate” conservative at the state political level and quite to very conservative once you get away from the public sector in Bismarck, Grand Forks and Fargo.

Wyoming is more conservative at the state level (their outgoing Dem governor was more conservative than N.D.’s outgoing Republican governor, who is now the new senator) and Wyoming is marvelously conservative out in the countryside-—if you stay away from Jackson Hole and country club spots like that.

North Dakota is colder and doesn’t have mountains, but it has good bird hunting and great walleye fishing in the 200-mile long Lake Sakakawea; Wyoming has good rivers and trout fishing and big-game hunting, but once you are away from the mountains you could just as well be in North Dakota.

Both states have oil; North Dakota positively swims in the stuff right now. You want work, you want to make money and you are a tough bastard who can take cold, heat and real work-—head to western North Dakota. Write your own ticket.

Do not come to Texas!!!
We have rattlers.
We have hot summers.
We have fire ants.
We have serious allergy seasons.
We have liberals in the big cities.
We have Africanized honey bees.
We have traffic gridlocks all day.
We have etc., etc,.

About the only state with a climate that I could tolerate (FL,TX and AZ are *out*) is New Hampshire. No income tax...no sales tax...and parts of the state are basically suburbs of Boston anyway.

I’m from VA, no Yankee here. My husband is from TX and I am like Ruth wherever he goes so will I. So if he goes home to TX I will go too.
Believe you me though I am praying he won’t.

Interesting... I am probably TOO conservative for the likes of you... Try being an ultra Conservative Christian in NJ that can’t keep his mouth shut! Yup, that’s me... Got the entire school district, NJEA, GLAD and PTA to compromise my bank account, send me threats and shun us from the school. I am sure you have seen it on the news, radio and internet in 2007. Yup, you don’t want people like me in TX, maybe I need to stand on the front line and keep liberalism from spreading to your area? Maybe the soft cushy life ain’t for me.... maybe, just maybe, that is why God has us here.

TX probably comes closest to what you’re asking. However, you will be looked upon as a Yankee, which can get very annoying and make it hard to make true friends (people are nice to your face), so be prepared.

I think it would be more accurate to say that Texans have good manners. Most of us don't really have a problem with yankees- unless they treat our ways with disdain, which they often do. Genuinely likeable people do just fine here.

That being said, a New York or New Jersey accent can be hard to get past, sometimes. :)

I’m in St Johns county, St Augustine to be exact, our nations oldest city.

The county is one of the most republican areas in the state, we have no Dems in power in this county, we’re not in debt ;like other areas and we get the seasons but not as harsh as the south FL or north of GA.

Any questions then I would be more than happy to answer them.

BTW There is no traffic jams here, no roads being blocked, crime is one of the lowest you will find anywhere.
Everyone speaks English, never met anyone who could not.

If it’s a diverse area wiht all cultures and races then this place is not for you but if you’re looking for a peaceful cheap safe , nice climate, conservative area then this place is for you.

In many ways the place still reminds me of the old days where many stores are still MOM and Dad stores, grocers, butchers, fish mongers etc

I believe at one point it was. Nice people down there, beautiful scenery, lots of recreation opportunities, esp. if you like boating, hiking, camping. Nice place to rear children or retire. Decent weather-you get a winter, but it’s not severe. Rocky Mount, VA is a nice old fashioned town. Close enough to Roanoke for medical needs or big time shopping, but still rural. Blue Ridge Parkway is close.

Not sure where Table Rock is unless that is the Tabletops near Golden (Coors Brewery)?

Yes, too much Kalifornication in recent years.

Thanks for your service.
