" “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.” "

translation..... I got so caught up making it all about "me" with my stupid nassely vocalizing that I forgot it's supposed to be about my country.

Exactly. I can understand maybe getting nervous or emotional and botching the lyrics to a song, but not this one. It should be as automatic as brushing your teeth. What really irritated me was not the mistake, but bastardizing the song with all the artistic impression, voice inflection, etc. Just sing the Anthem...it's not about your career this time.

You got that right! They don’t get paid, but get expenses for them and all their entourage. The NFL should have paid a professional to sing the anthem with the pride it deserves to be sung with. Someone commented that yodeling the anthem should be against the law. I agree wholeheartedly. If you can’t sing it properly, you shouldn’t be allowed to sing it at all. Maybe they should hire Shania Twain to sing it. She’s canadian and she probably knows what it’s supposed to sound like.
