Hi everyone. New here.
42 year old lifelong conservative raised by conservative parents. Dad ran successful company for 41 years before selling it and retiring. Mom has run successful business for 25 years.
Earliest political memory is my Grandfather on the night of the 1976 Republican Convention saying "He will be back and in 4 years he will bring this country back" He had a horrible feeling about Carter and that Ford would lose and he was of course referring to Ronald Reagan who would be back in 4 years.
I have a story that I think is typical of the difference between a conservative and a liberal.
2 years ago at the end of 08 I was part of a layoff.
Was I upset? Yes. Did I complain? Yes I admit I did.
A coworker and friend despite her being liberal and I were laid off on same day.
I pulled myself up took unemployment and decided to instead of asking the government to get my life better decided to go back to school.
And I didn't go back to school to get a degree in Romance Languages of the Chicago Cubs or some other liberal claptrap like that.
I went back to become a paralegal. I was among the people my age who got a feel good degree stupidly which if I took it and 7 bucks I'd take the round trip downtown on the Metra train.
Yes I wanted a job that paid high while going to school but I took one which put food on my table and paid my bills instead of living on unemployment.
Well I finished the program in December and am now in a good job making more than I ever had.
The liberal friend? Still unemployed. Had many job chances (including where I went to work which was a decent not great job and paid decently) but decided to let the state pay her way.
Plenty of oppurtunities to go to school or such but it's all the fault of George W. Bush of course.
And the best part of my paralegal job? Work 4 10 hour days and I'm a diehard Cubs fan and will go to every Friday home game this season.
And my all time hero is Ronald Reagan. Followed closely by the late Ron Santo.
Heh. The first rule my kid's learned!
And the corollary:
“Get over it.” (Admittedly, they are still working on that one!!)
One is only a victim if one chooses to be. One is only in poverty if one’s mind believes he is poor.
Welcome.
Thank you ... I feel... ‘somewhat better’ now lol!
LOL...talk about a great post! Thanks for the laugh...
The first group, we'll call them Conservatives or Libertarians, know that Nobody owes them a living.
The second group, we'll call them Liberals, Progressives, Losers, Whatever, think Everybody owes them a living.
It's as simple as that.
You know that saying “Life isn't fair”? Liberals think they can make it fair by stealing your money. Liberals are Narcissists, it's in their DNA.
Excellamondo.

Well with this kind of story if it was a story of a democrat family and you were proud to be a democrat...then you’d be a sick puppy. As it is your just normal!
We need more normal people.
