SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – More than half of US adults use online social networking service Facebook, according to an upcoming study.

A report by Edison Research and Arbitron Inc. to be released on April 5 includes the finding that 51 percent of US residents age 12 or older have profiles set up at Facebook.

Smartest thing she has ever done (possibly the only thing). Those girls are too young and too exposed. Could you imagine one of those getting kidnapped because of some social network. It would be a complete disaster.

LOL... I don’t know who has time to waste on all those goofy games. I like facebook to keep up with friends and family across the country (and out of the country).

I do! Two of my sisters live out of state and it’s a great way to keep up with them. I have also found several high school friends. I’m in a Bloodhound forum online and have friends from there on my Facebook friend list. Facebook is fine if you are smart about it regarding security and don’t become addicted to it.

I agree. I don’t post that mundane stuff either. I do link people to things I think are relevant, cute, or interesting. There is some pretty good dialog that goes on and I also think it’s a great way to share Christ. That’s me. It’s the modern world. I imagine people felt telephones were evil too. We can use these tools for good or bad; for positive or negative. For me, it is mostly positive.

I do. I have family all over the country, including one sister (and nieces) in England. I have some friends from way back that I’ve re-connected with on FB... it’s fun to catch up.

See, if you were posting that on FB you could have deleted your
mistake and reposted before anyone was the wiser! ;~P

No. I don’t like those “social” networking things. I think they allow people to be snotty at will and exclusive; crowing about who’s who, what’s what, and who’s got what.

A friend’s DIL would post photos of her house and redecorating projects, post status of where they were going, what time they’d leave and be back home, then left one day, came back to find they’d been burglarized.

I wonder if that means that FR people like us are interested in the meaning and application of ideas, ideals, beliefs, and values more than “social networking.” Maybe so, eh?

I use a pseudonym on Facebook at my work. I often need to look into the background of individuals suspected of wrongdoing. I can’t believe what people say about themselves. Not smart.

I’ve seen people do that too and I have warned them. One friend dismissed my concern. He goes out of town and basically advertises that his wife and two daughters are alone. Not too smart. I always said it would be better to talk about the vacation AFTER you are back and there’s no reason to post every time you take a business trip, especially if you take them every week!

I have a MySpace page but I never use it anymore. I mainly set it up because my sister in another state was on there, along with some friends, but it wasn’t to my taste. No FB, though, I spend too much time online because of FR already :)

“I often need to look into the background of individuals suspected of wrongdoing.”

Definitely. Before we hire anyone now, we google ‘em to see what their FB/MySpace/whatever looks like. You can screen out a lot of wierdos that way.

How so?

Facebook, LinkedIn, etc, are all tools, and just like any tool, you get out of it what you put into it. My work team uses Facebook to stay in touch and plan events as we are spread out all over the country.

You’ve got to be kidding. Of course, I do NOT use FB or similar. The world doesn’t need to know my emotional status or what I had for breakfast, nor do I care what anyone else had for breakfast or that they are crossing a street or what they put in their mocha lattee.

I think that the style, color and condition of people's socks is pretty vital, though.

I post daily updates on the condition of my socks. If I miss a day, people get really upset.

Meyers-Briggs, or one of those psychological/personality tests, profiling what energizes a person: with some people it’s other people, with others it’s more the contemplation and processing of ideas. I think FR folks probably tend toward the second group - I know I do.
