iPhone help!!! (vanity)

Posted on 04/06/2011 5:36:50 PM PDT by MacMattico

Hi all you iPhone pros!

Hubby is driving me crazy for several hours because he tried to update his iPhone 3G on iTunes and It wouldn't update, it said you had to restore before he could proceed. He's tried this several times and keeps getting error message "could not restore iPhone". Says his phone is now wiped clean and everything is lost. He was on my phone with Apple several times to no avail. Any suggestions???? Says he's ditching all Apple products if he can't fix this phone, but he will pry this iPad from my cold, dead hands!!!

Hold in both the home button and the off button (top right) simultaneously for ten seconds to force a hard shutdown and reset. Once that has shut down, press the on button (top right) to turn the iPhone back on. Then retry the restore iPhone to factory new and reinstall software with iTunes.

Are you using a Mac or a PC for the computer?

If this fails, make an appointment with your closest Apple store. You might luck out and have the Genius give you a brand new iphone4 in exchange for your old iPhone 3. I had a friend take in an out of warranty MacBook and when they couldn’t fix it, they gave him a brand new MacBook!

The last time I had my iPad plugged into my computer, I did a ‘sync’ with iTunes, and most of my installed iPad Apps vanished. Didn’t see them within iTunes anywhere afterward to restore, so I just re-downloaded them all from the AppStore.

Is there something I neglected to do, or did wrong? (I’ve been afraid to ‘sync’ ever since....)

PC — tried on a Lenova laptop and some other kind of desktop. You can see my level of sophistication!

He's says thanks but he tried what you wrote. It keeps saying cannot update until phone is restored, and then no matter what he does he gets error: can't restore.

So looks like he's going to the Apple store Friday, has to be out of town tomorrow, wanted what was on his phone. :(

Huh? You are correct, I can’t even comprehend anyone not owning a computer. My husband and I are just geeks I guess. We have two lap tops, one desk top, an iPad and two iPhones. Sometimes we are using all of them at the same time.
I love my iPhone and other stuff. :)

Have him just do a sync from the computer without the restore. That should put everything back on the phone. (fingers crossed)

There's an option to save the purchased apps to iTunes from the iPad that may need to be clicked back on.
