Ah, those were the days, before the arrival of Vlad the Usurper, space-baby, and his surprising brother Francisco. Back then, it seemed as if we might get the Zeus colony established, the first step in re-Hellenizing the Helios system ... but budget constraints and the proliferation of kudzu intervened ...

We were back and forth to the pool a couple of times; the swim team was watching a video about correct strokes and turns. They couldn’t swim because it’s too cold and was raining most of the day.

Then I read three chapters of “Hittite Warrior” to the byos. It’s a historical novel based on episodes from the Book of Judges, Deborah vs. Sisera. (The eponymous protagonist has just met Sisera, so things will get bloody pretty soon.) We got it with Anoreth or Bill’s Seton School curriculum years ago, but I’d never read it. Tom recommended it to Pat when we finished “Kings Mountain,” about the Revolutionary War, a couple of weeks ago.

I went to the ACE hardware store.

I would guess Tax-Chick went to Wal-Mart or will soon.

Sounds like fun! Much more than the stuff I have to read (and write!) these days.

Sorry to hear about your weather. It looks like Spring has finally arrived here, hitting both LoM and myself with allergic reactions. Until we succeed in replacing all grass with moss, the lawnmower is her duty for the time being.

For reading I am still working my way through "After Worlds Collide," an old SF novel preceded by the 1930s novel "When Worlds Collide", made into an Americana movie early 50s. Surprisingly fun stuff, though I hope the remake is more true to the book than the original.

An accurate remake of "After Worlds Collide" would be way too incorrect for Hollyweird so I have no hopes of that.

Looks like we have great weather ahead: comfortably warm in the mid 60s, lots of sun -- so of course after Wednesday we'll be away to the SF Bay area until Saturday night. (Diocesan conference.)

It was Bill. I had to read Heidi, which is the worst thing I’ve ever been forced to write about. Also a silly book about some girl whining her way through the Depression.
I found a book about the Soviet Revolution. Published in the 50s, and therefore free of the modern tendencies to explain away the mistakes of either or both sides. Also it’s only about a hundred pages (paperback), so it’s not endlessly long like others I’ve seen on the same subject.

I had to write a paper on “The Rise of the Working Class,” a Marxist history of England. That was worse than Heidi, which at least had mountain scenery and Clara’s grandmother in it.

If you find anything by Robert Conquest on the Soviet Union, it’s worth reading (but heavy going). He wrote “The Great Terror” and “Harvest of Sorrow,” among others.

How are things in the undisclosed tropical location? It’s chilly here and might rain again. We need to go to Petsmart for more crickets.

Well. Back from my trek to the Nether Regions. I didn’t want to go, as it was windy and in the low 50’s when I got up. It’s still windy, but now it’s in the high 50’s. Oh joy.

I’m experimenting with diferent types of clothing for the walks. I’ve found that a thermal undershirt worn as an outer shirt, plus my jacket, is far warmer than a sweatshirt under the same jacket. Go figure.

And I think I’ve finally lost enough weight to get into a pair of jeans I bought three years ago. Everything else is falling off my hips. Maybe I should be gateful.

I think my hips have your lost pounds.

We’re off to the Petsmart for a bazillion crickets. Paula the Chameleon is hungry!

I wish MY hips had the lost pounds. Thanks to the fact that I swam a lot when a child, my shoulders are broader than my hips, and (sad to say) men’s clothes fit me better than women’s. *sigh*

That’s what I get for being so athletic, I guess. Softball and volleyball...I was always first chosen. We only swam in the summer. No pools at the schools... But hiking made up for a lot of that.

It rained a little while ago, and as usual, the desert gave up its clean, fresh aromas. The wind has died down, but not completely. Just enough to make me wish it had not been in existence when I left this morning...*sheesh*

Summer can come any time, now... :o|

Half an hour to swimming practice. Big black clouds over Lake Park. I think I’ll have teh byos all go to the bathroom, and then I’ll take them to the playground by the pool, because I think the practice will be called off pretty quick.

Faux-filet, LOL!

When I was little, my parents operated a business that required them to feed and house their staff. One summer, at about 12 years of age, I worked in the staff dining room. One day when Salisbury steak was on the menu, I told my Dad that the cooks were pulling a fast one.....they were serving the staff hamburger patties covered in gravy, not real steak. The look on his face was priceless. ;-)

It turns out the practice went as scheduled and the clouds are clearning now. So the byos played outside for an hour, which was fine.

I got Jake a catnip mouse, and now he’s licking it and smearing it over his face. Sneeze!

Maybe you should be grateful?
Maybe???

I would be happy to send an inch or two of hip your way if you’d prefer!

It’s cool here too, and rainy.

LOL! At this stage in the weight loss, I look like a guy from the back: no hips, broad shoulders....and I’m 5’9” with long legs...not to mention the fact that my hair is VERY short and spikey.

I wear a red visor, and my “cover” of choice is a pink hoodie. Otherwise, folks have a tendency to say, “Hey! Buddy! You need a ride?”

(I guess they dont pay attention to the sway in my hips...)
