Obama’s a major variation on a theme started by the Orwellian “Progressives” in the early 1900’s.

I believe the man is attempting to turn this nation into a third world meaningless powerless bannana comunist nation. Not exactly 1984.

I just think Urkel is utterly incompetent, and corrupt. But it is the environment in which he grew up. ;)

Despite having been explicitly warned against doing so, Americans have been imperceptibly and incrementally trading their liberty for the spectre of security for long before Obama came on the scene. He and his ilk are now simply in a position to ride the wave that started rolling toward us decades ago...

You're right. It's been a while since I read 1984.

George Orwell was very, VERY prophetic. His insight exceeded that of most people. Reminds me of the prescient things our founding fathers said, warning us about what could happen to our government, and it has.

Stroking and pandering to the Arab League had much more to do with Libya than the Brits and the French. Follow the money. No one else has it, but the Arab League. And Soros may have dialed up Junior to remind him of that fact.

” Americans have been imperceptibly and incrementally trading their liberty for the spectre of security for long before Obama came on the scene. “ =========================

You said it. Simply. In spades.

Now if we could take the battle where it will make a difference. Into our public schools, university and academia, the sedition breeding grounds all. The future is more of the same until we show up on the field of education, indoctrination, revisionism, redaction.

Yup. Government continues baiting with the Faustian & Satanic bargain of trading freedom for security and ignorant, gullible people keep taking the bait not realizing they'll end up with neither.

It's the same effect as the trade-off of liberty for "equality." Putting equality before freedom leave you with little of both, whereas putting freedom before equality leaves you a great deal of both.

Sir Kenneth Clarke was a British Art Historian who led the effort to safeguard the collections of British Museums during WWII; his son later became a Conservative MP. In 1969, Clarke put together a BBC series and companion book titled Civilisation and talked about the underpinnings of the west in what was a clear, unabashed celebration of the greatness of western culture. In defining civilization, I think he sums up why it's so important for the radical left to undermine patriotism, cultural values and western exceptionalism. He writes:

"Of course, civilisation requires a modicum of material prosperity – enough to provide a little leisure. But, far more, it requires confidence – confidence in the society in which one lives, belief in its philosophy, belief in its laws, and confidence in one’s own mental powers. The way in which the stones of the Pont du Gard are laid is not only a triumph of technical skill, but shows a vigorous belief in law and discipline. Vigor, energy, vitality: all the great civilisations – or civilising epochs – have had a weight of energy behind them. People sometimes think that civilisation consists in fine sensibilities and good conversation and all that. These can be among the agreeable results of civilisation, but they are not what make a civilisation, and a society can have these amenities and yet be dead and rigid."

Following Marx's lead, the left has assailed and chipped away at all of the above. Making people feel insecure and anxious not only makes them look for security in others and willing to cede their liberty, it also breaks down and undermines civilisation as a whole.

It's inaccurate to say Marx hated the West. His stuff is an outgrowth of the Ideal of Man's ‘Infinite Perfectibility’ which comes right out of the Enlightenment. In doing so it of course denies Original Sin.
