You're welcome, DD.

Thank YOU for your service to our beloved country!

I'm sure most all of us would find the name of at least one person from our past. Breaks my heart. May they all R.I.P.

Our Side of the Wall

The souls of heroes are laid down,
Like bricks in ordered rows,
To make a wall, an edifice,
A structure that still grows.

Upon this side, stern silence reigns,
The code of fallen men,
It takes a focused feeling to,
Receive our thoughts again.

The thing that every soldier here,
Would say is short and sweet,
Go live your life but learn as well,
Don't make this scene repeat.

If there were one thing I would say,
I'd say it with a shout!
This wall's not here to keep us in.
It's there to keep you out.

With Memorial Day here, I've been a bit blue... Father's day is just around the corner and, between the two holidays it just hits me pretty hard to be without my dad, a WWII Submarine sailor. So... I see what is going on in our country and am saddened and angered at the same time. We are the ones responsible for correcting the problems... We have to do it soon, or we won't be able to correct them. The ink is still wet on this one... Just finished it.

Flags

The Gift They Gave Us

They fought and struggled to deliver it.
Some fell along the way.
Some silently recall their journey.
Some lay in silent graves.

We live our lives concerned with time,
Or what we have or haven’t got.
We’ve left their gift to wither away,
Since their hardships we forgot.

But I see the fields of stones and flags,
And a tear comes to my eye.
I hear their voice, they call to me.
They ask the question “Why?”

My son holds my hand and asks me,
“Daddy why are you so sad?”
I swallow hard and say “I’m okay”,
While I straighten the flag for my dad.

I stand up and realize,
The gift, it must be passed on.
I know I must restore it, though,
Before I leave it to my son.

I hear my dad – his voice is loud.
He says “You know what must be done!
Step up and make me proud my boy,
Give FREEDOM to your son!”

Thank you, and your Dad, for your service to this great nation.

I see what is going on in our country and am saddened and angered at the same time.

I believe that describes the feelings of many.

Beautiful poem, thank you!

Great poem, Raven6.

My father-in-law was also a WWII submariner. He passed away in March 2010. We miss him greatly but we have very fond memories of him which will never be forgotten but shared with family and friends.

Salute to your father.

Funnies

“Everyone who believes is set free.” Acts 13:39

Bob and Jim are talking, when they notice a rather goofy-looking kid, bouncing down the sidewalk.

Bob says...”that’s Tommy, he’s one of the stupidest kids you’ll ever meet,
here, I’ll show you.”

“Tommy, get on over here,” says a laughing Bob.

As Tommy comes bouncing over, Bob pulls a shiny dime and a rusty quarter out of his pocket.

Bob tells Jim that he and Tommy play this game all the time.

Bob tells Tommy, “Whichever coin you choose you can keep.”

Tommy looked long and hard at the dime, then the quarter, finally choosing the dime.

Bob looks at Jim, and says, “See, I told you that he wasn’t too bright.”

As Bob walks away laughing, Jim asks Tommy why he chose the dime.

Tommy motions Jim closer, then he whispers, “If I choose the quarter, he won’t play anymore!”

An older lady gets pulled over for speeding...

Older Woman: Is there a problem, Officer?

Officer: Ma’am, you were speeding.

Older Woman: Oh, I see.

Officer: Can I see your license please?

Older Woman: I’d give it to you but I don’t have one.

Officer: Don’t have one?

Older Woman: Lost it, 4 years ago for drunk driving.

Officer: I see...Can I see your vehicle registration papers please.

Older Woman: I can’t do that.

Officer: Why not?

Older Woman: I stole this car.

Officer: Stole it?

Older Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner.

Officer: You what?

Older Woman: His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk, if you want
to see.

The Officer looks at the woman and slowly backs away to his car and calls
for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer
slowly approaches the car, clasping his half-drawn gun.

Officer 2: Ma’am, could you step out of your vehicle please! The woman
steps out of her vehicle.

Older woman: Is there a problem sir?

Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and
murdered the owner.

Older Woman: Murdered the owner?

Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please. The
woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk.

Officer 2: Is this your car, ma’am?

Older Woman: Yes, here are the registration papers.

The first officer is quite stunned.

Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving
license. The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and
hands it to the officer. The officer examines the license. He looks quite
puzzled.

Officer 2: Thank you ma’am, one of my officers told me you didn’t have a
license, that you stole this car, and that you murdered and hacked up the
owner.

Older Woman: Bet the liar told you I was speeding, too.
