Police said a would-be carjacker was beaten and left lying in an Orlando parking lot when he picked on the wrong victim Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Arnold Alvarez said a witness called police about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, reporting that a man was approached by the suspect in a lot near Millenia Boulevard and West Oak Ridge Road.

The suspect, later identified as 54-year-old Richard J. McCandles, demanded that the driver hand over his keys, police said.

But investigators said McCandles made one critical mistake — he selected a target who was bigger than him.

After beating McCandles up, the driver got into his car and drove off, Alvarez said. Officers said they arrived to find the McCandles lying on the ground.

Oh, come on. When you are 54 you are over the hill in the fight game. Way over the hill.

Old men should never pick a fight. This bozo was stupid. And I’m glad he got what he had coming.

On the other hand, never pick a fight with an old man. If he can’t whip you, he might just kill you.

Old guys can’t last in a fight. That’s why the ones who know what they are doing will inflict serious injury in the first few seconds, and then walk away.

Why did he retire?

So that he had the time to count to infinity, again.

OMG! Lol, old men in denial. Known a few. It’s hard to give up that long lost image of yourself you used to see when you looked in the mirror.

That's very true. I have the sense that there are a lot of old dudes out there packing heat. Can't do it here in California, but if I lived anywhere sensible, I'd be one of them. One's physical (and mental) decline in old age is frightening, as I've long known.

I was going to say trying to play the tough guy when he was 54. I'll bet a lot of guys smaller than him could've kicked his old butt all over the parking lot.

Guess you've never seen amber lamps. That dude was in his 70's.

The video that still is from is awesome. It’s great to see some little prick like this get the crap totally slapped out of him by the old white guy he was picking on.

54 is not even close to old when confronted by a punk. Self defense has to do with leverage, pin point accuracy and clear thought. Punks attempt to bully people, that is why he lost. The guy executed a plan, and there was no thought of giving in. Young people have the advantage in flexibility and endurance, those things seldom come into play during a 30 second exchange.

I know it sounds like the driver was 54 in my writings. I just meant that the defender has the advantage, and age is no excuse to give in to a punk. You read often of 70 year old ladies beating down a purse snatcher....surprise is a weapon, and so is tenacity.

Tell that to the 30-35 year old guy who kept hitting into my 75 year old dad's four some at the golf course about 15 years ago. He will not agree.

You’re right and wrong. I’ll agree that an older gent may not can go 12 in the ring...but I grew with a ww2 vet soldier for a neighbor and befriended his son. Worked for his framing business for ohhh about 8 years. He employed several of us young Ga country boys.

That old man was the saw man for a 10 man crew and had no problem keeping up with us. He worked till the day he died.

His son tested him regularly...the son liked to test him quite regular...especially when the son would get drunk and pop wouldn’t give him his car keys. It never ended well for the son.
Employees would test him. Wouldn’t end well for them either.
