Allen West votes against an Obamacare funding repeal..... I'm not joking
Politicons- Politically Conservative ^ | May 8th | Henry D'Andrea

Allen West voted against a bill to scrap part of Obamacare. The bill would repeal $100 million in funding for the construction of school-based health centers. Just four Republicans voted against the measure, which passed 235-191.

West spokeswoman Angela Sachitano said in an email that he “believes there are bigger funding issues to be focusing on right now including the numerous developments in the Middle East, concerning Pakistan and whether there is a link to [Osama bin Laden] and the recent unity agreement with the [Palestinian Authority] and Fatah and Hamas. He voted to repeal Obamacare, and it was dead on arrival in the Senate,” Sachitano said. “He questions what the goal is of chipping away like this if it’s almost certain that the Senate is not going to take it up.”

Hmmm, I question why Allen West would do this. We already know that Democrats control the Senate, but House Republicans still have to make an effort to repeal it. Plus though West rightfully said it would die in the Senate, it’s still a signal to America that he supports defunding and repealing Obamacare. I like Allen West and he’s a great congressmen, but he should’ve voted for this repeal.

“There are several reasons why an individual could claim exemption, being a member of a religion that does not believe in insurance is one of them. Islam is one of those religions. Muslims believe that health insurance is ‘haraam,’ or forbidden;...”

This is an important quote, do you have a link?

no, you said "the word" dhimmitude is on pg 107 of the bill:

Dhimmitude — I had never heard the word until now...It’s on page 107 of the healthcare bill...It is a REAL word.

So was your original post a lie? If you want to make a point, feel free, but if you want to post things like that as if they're "fact" and expect people to accept it as such, you're doing a huge disservice to this community.

Please provide a direct link to your source to confirm your original post, or take back what you said. No one here likes the bill, but we dislike people trying to discredit it via lies, fake emails, etc. even more. Anyone who agrees with you is discredited as soon as your post is.

There's a thread already in progress which deals with this issue. There is analysis and information regarding Rep. West's vote. It's a shame that this duplicate will not contain the info on the original thread. A lot of intelligent and informative posts by many freepers will fall by the wayside....and the summer patriots and the sunshine soldiers will hold sway on this this thread, I'm afraid.

This question was bouncing along more so a year ago. Remember, the legislation is lengthy and complex, and under construction since at least Bill Clinton's first term (then called Hillarycare). Here is a link to American Thinker from March of last year:

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/03/amish_muslims_to_be_excused_fr.html

There's another commentary from around the same time:

These are, of course, opinions based on evaluation, and seem worthy of consideration.

Yes, that's the one......and thanks for posting the link which I don't know how to do, sigh.

Holly's link will take freepers to the original, current thread regarding Col. West's vote.

Probably the latter half is most enlightening. The first posts are from those who in varying degrees want the conservative congressman to "go to hell" plus those willing to pass hasty judgement on him after reading the article itself on West written by a Marxist writer.

Here is some useful information regarding Muslims view of insurance. Although they may view it as gambling, and would prefer a co-op type of health care, they are permissive of the idea in relationship to a country’s laws. I truly doubt religion is going to play a part in the health insurance situation. I don’t agree with ‘Obama Care’ one bit, but I do think this ‘dhimmitude’ thing is stretching things quite a bit.

http://islam.about.com/od/business/f/insurancefaq.htm

“Scholars such as Sheikh Muhammed Al-Munajjid criticise the system of conventional insurance as exploitative and unjust. They point out that paying money for something, with no guarantee of benefit, involves high ambiguity and risk. One pays into the program, but may or may not need to receive compensation from the program, which could be considered a form of gambling. The insured always seems to lose while the insurance companies get richer and charge higher premiums.

However, many of these same scholars take into consideration the circumstances. For those living in non-Islamic countries, who are mandated to abide by insurance law, there is no sin in complying with the local law. Sheikh Al-Munajjid advises Muslims about what to do in such a situation: “If you are forced to take out insurance and there is an accident, it is permissible for you to take from the insurance company the same amount as the payments you have made, but you should not take any more than that. If they force you to take it then you should donate it to charity.”

(continuation):

In countries with exhorbitant health care costs, one could argue that compassion for those who are ill takes precedence over a dislike of health insurance. A Muslim has a duty to ensure that people who are ill can access affordable health care. In 2010, for example, several prominent American Muslim organizations supported President
Obama’s health care reform proposal, under the belief that access to affordable health care is a fundamental human right.

In Muslim-majority countries, and in some non-Muslim countries, there is often an alternative to insurance available, called takaful. It is based on a cooperative, shared-risk model.
