VACAVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) — A CHP officer assigned to the California Capitol was arrested for allegedly attempting to steal from a Target store, authorities said.

The Vacaville Police Department said Shawn Hammonds intended to steal electronics equipment from the Vacaville retailer on Monday, but was pulled over a few miles away in a business park.

Hammonds has been an officer assigned to the Capitol for about 5 years, according to authorities. Nobody answered the door when CBS13 visited Hammonds’ last known address.

The CHP said Hammonds has not officially been put on leave yet but has not reported to work since his arrest Monday. He has been charged with burglary.

Burglary — not shoplifting. How’d he bust into the Venture store?

Peyer was so ironic because the CHP put him with all the news crews to show the danger of that stretch of I15 BEFORE they suspected him of the crime. And then continued for a few days after.

NO WAY that Jon and Ponch ever would have pulled this type of thing.

This would have made a good episode of C.H.I.P.S. After a lengthy chase down the highway Joh and Ponch would have arrested him

Its easy when there are 34 CHP bad boys. Did you hear the one about the Capt in the valley division that had a DD crash two days ago?

LOL! Of course, there had to be a car wreck scene. One of those old, 70’s station wagons seemed to be very popular.
