Batman is ready for his closeup again.
Shooting is now underway on Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' The Dark Knight Rises, the third and presumably final chapter in director Christopher Nolan's epic trilogy on the Caped Crusader.
Christian Bale once again reprises his role as Bruce Wayne and his gruff-voiced alterego.
Joining him will be an all-star cast including newcomers Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, better known by her meow de plume Catwoman, Tom Hardy as the villainous Bane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Gotham City cop John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises boardmember who helps Bruce sort out his business and philanthropic affairsand just maybe his love life (the latter three, of course, co-starred in Nolan's mega-hit Inception last summer).
Also returning are key veteran supporting cast members Michael Caine as Alfred the Butler, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon.
The closely guarded script was written by Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, from a story by the filmmaker and David Goyer.
Spanning three continents, principal photography will take place in India, England and Scotland as well as the U.S., including locations in Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles.

One of the very few movies that will draw me out to a theater.
I watched the old circa 1960’s Batman movie yesterday and some of the performances, especially Burgess Meridith as Mr. P.N. Guin, were fantastic. Lee Merriweather was SMOKIN’ HOT as Cat Woman/Miss Kitka. Some of the highlights of the show are way too under-appreciated. The scenes where Alfred is driving the batmobile with his hokey disguise and magnified “crazy eyes” had me in stitches.
You just can’t beat the scene of Batman trying to dipose of the bomb on the pier.
I think they’ve modernized the story better than anything I’ve ever seen. By far.
Yes Batman was thwarted by nuns, an ompah band, a lady with a baby carriage, children, kissing lovers, little old ladies and even, by a raft of ducklings. Finally an exasperated Batman proclaims, “Somedays, you just can’t get rid of a bomb.” How true how true..
I also loved it when Penguin dehydrated the 5 thugs and then proclaimed that “everyone of them has a Momma.”
I really like the Dark Knight comic series. There were several graphic novels with this darker, more heavy handed Batman, and they rocked. I think the “new” Batman captures not only this more dominant and utilitarian Batman, but also the raw evil of the foes he faces. I’m really looking forward to the new film.
What I find strange is that in the first movie he stopped the group that intermittently stopped civilization from their increase in evils and unleashed a anarchist w/o any morals at all (reminds me of the narco trafficers we have now). It never seems to be pointed out. I never read the Dark Knight series but I understood them to be rather dark. Good. Sometimes you have to to over-match your enemey in his speciality.
“Tom Hardy as the villainous Bane”
I’m not familiar with the villain Bane, but boy howdy am I gassed to see Tom Hardy on the big screen again. Been a fan of his since he played Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis.
So who will be replacing Ledger as the Joker?
I liked the "Dark Knight Returns" with a late-middle-aged Batman finds he needs to come out of retirement. I thought Clint Eastwood would have made a good fit for the Batman Returns persona.
I want it to be the guy who did The Joker Blogs.
Number Two was often referred to here and elsewhere as the Bush Batman in that Bush was doing the unappreciated and unpopular jobs in the War on Terror instead of the wishy washy approach that would leave him less slammed.
