ultravanity: Founding Father brought to the present?
5.26.2011

If a Founding Father could be brought to the present and shown what has happened to America, who should it be so he can go back and pre-empt our liberal mess?

George Washington. He could accept the kingship offered him.

After they got over the panic attack of time travel, seeing cars, TVs, movies, airplanes, etc? After they went back, they would probably be driven to drink to understand the hallucinations they just saw.

Nothing the founders did need to be altered. They set up a fantastic framework. If we need to bring anyone back, Teddy Roosevelt or Woodrow Wilson before they became President would be it. We could lock them up. Progressivism is what started to erode the founders great work. Pres. Johnson really cause a lot of serious long term damage as well. Bring him back just so I can punch him in the face.

most of them would understand the power hungry greedy politicians, and the consolidation of power, and fix it.

but Jefferson, is a “twofer”. He could also fix the Sharia and Muslim problem before it gets worse.
When Adams wanted to pay tribute to pirates (deja vu... just like today...) Jefferson said:

“millions for defense but not one cent for tribute,”

he also read the Koran, did research, and understood that Islam is at war with the rest of the world.

I had no clue that Adams (John?) thought that.

The founding fathers did foresee the liberal mess we have today and did what they could to help us.

This is our liberal mess to fix.

On the other hand, Jefferson is the man I’d like to meet.

I think they’d be amazed at how rich we are, how powerful this nation is, how much good America has done in the world. I bet they’d see things like the Tea Party and be impressed that when Americans see things start going wrong they organize and work to change things. My guess is if the founding fathers could glimpse America today they’d be incredibly proud. I doubt they’d change a thing. My guess is they would assume we would continue working out all the kinks as we go along.

America has a LOT of problems, but don’t make the assumption we won’t continue solving them. We may enter a period of serious strife, but I think the founding fathers would trust the American people would ultimately make the corrections that need to be made.

I think it would go down differently.

After he got over his disgust and revulsion at what has become of the country he founded, we would get a dressing down the likes of which could not be legally rendered into printed word for allowing this to happen.

And when returned to his time and colleges, he would probably say "don't bother, our decedents are not worthy".

Except it wasn't Jefferson who said "Millions for defense ...," it was Robert Goodloe Harper although it is commonly attributed to Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, American Ambassador to France. See bartleby.

TJ and the anti-federalists were consistently opposed to a Federal Navy.

Send us whomever wrote Article II, Section 1, specifically the qualifications for office clause.

I’d settle for someone like Col. John S. Mosby.
