Actually, white people invented rap. Ever hear of square dance calling? Every time I hear an auctioneer, I think of a square dance caller.

Gil Scott Herron was actually a fairly gifted musician, but his radical leftist politics infected his work, and destroyed any chance he might have had at becoming a superstar recording artist.
I really enjoyed some of his stuff, back in the 70s.
