What the hell is happening to our society? Twenty years ago you NEVER heard of this stuff happening. The Mary Kay Letourneau case got all that attention precisely because it was so unusual. Now we’re seeing this 3 and 4 times a week.

Now I will agree that incidents like this are becoming more commonplace, and I suspect that has a lot to do with 18-39 year olds becoming more and more “youthanized.” We live in a culture that glorifies partying without responsibility, dressing like teenagers and treating your children like BFFs.

However, if you don’t think this kind of stuff happened “back in the day” your are sadly mistaken. My Junior year (1984), one of my best friends was having a “relationship” with our smokin’ hot (and she really was).... you guessed it Biology teacher. She was 27 and had just gotten out of a messy relationship.

Was it wrong, you betcha’, but what sexually charged 16-17 year old boy is going to complain that he was seduced by an older woman and got free sex?!?!?!?

Yancy

These encounters have been happening in our society for a long long time..... except 20 years ago there was no internet to get the word out (i.e. increase awareness)beyond the local school district.

I can cite at least two examples at my high school (I graduated in 1980) where two Male teacher/coach’s were supposedly involved with a few of the high school girls. No formal charges (in my recollection) were brought forward... Their contracts were simply not renewed when it came to light.

Just saying it has happened in the past.

I graduated in '69 and remember some of the football players bragging about doing it with a certain teacher in our HS. She moved to another school district after a couple of years.

It just didn’t get into the news. At my high school, about five years after I graduated, 1975? (my siblings were still there and kept me posted on the tale) a student was shot to death in a girl’s gym teacher’s house by her husband. He came home unexpectedly and she cried rape.

Turned out she had been banging multiple students of both sexes for years and just got caught. It being a small town, the hubby was acquitted on the unwritten law.
