Pretty bad news
The Vanityville Bugle | June 29, 2011 | 2ndDivisionVet

Posted on 06/29/2011 7:50:49 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Went to my doctor for the first time in awhile and got some bad news. My A1C blood sugar was almost 12 and my blood pressure averaged about 190/110. They wanted to admit me right then and there, but instead gave me a shopping bag full of medications. Since my wife had her stroke I haven't really been taking care of myself and now it's come to a head. If I don't do a complete 180 I'll be dead before the year is out. I have committed to mall walking (exercising) seven days a week for 30 minutes a day and cutting my carbs and sugars drastically. Please pray for me or think of me as I try to save my own life. Thanks!

That will help a lot. If you haven't been exercising, or haven't for awhile. Start out slow. Use to be a PT :) Don't try to go all out at first. Start with 10 minutes and work up to 30 minutes over a month or so, just go at a slow/moderate pace to start. Then from there you can start walking faster. Or do a fast/moderate walk, just so your body doesn't get use to what your doing, mix it up a bit. Walk real fast and hard for a minute or so, then slow down to moderate for a few, then fast for a minute or so, then slow it back down, ect.

hey 2DV!

About a year ago I was in a similar situation. After years of putting myself fifth (after my husband, two kids and dog) my body was pretty much through.

I started turning this giant ship around. After months of hard work, I’ve lost 27% of my body weight and I’m slowly getting there. (I still have lots of work to do)

As long as you’re not dead, it’s not too late.

Hang in there, brother - and remember - if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of anyone else.

Don’t get discouraged - think of how drops of water wear away stone. Regular moderate walking or any other good habit, will show gradual affects in time, without doubt.

And if you fall down from the habit one day, no big deal - pick up the next day.

Never ever drink soda, especially artificially sweetened. If your family is prone to diabetes, that is pure poison for your system.

Do practice eating habits that include eating a protein whenever you eat a carbohydrate— like cheddar cheese with an apple.

Walk walk walk. Get a pedometer and make yourself walk 10000 steps a day.

Two years ago I had a heart attack and had to be paddled back into this world. None of my vitals were terribly disturbing but I got whacked anyway. Had a stent put in (so now I think even more like Dick Cheney) and have been taking a ton of pills since. My son bought me a MP3 player so I can tolerate the exercise I do at the hospital and I manage it. Just bought a bike yesterday and will ride it daily or so.

Just take it one step at a time. Sorry to hear about your wife. I lost my beautiful, wonderful wife 14 yrs ago as the age of 43. So I know what you are going through.

Vet, You are right to start walking and also watch your diet. But most of all watch all those pills they gave you, they will kill you. Research every one of them online so you will know what symptoms to watch out for. My hubby was almost done in by his diabetic medicine.

DollyCali - I’m interesting in what ever BP info you have. I’m an herbalist and have a client with elevated BP and have only dealt with someone with BP once before, I’m not a professional but people keep asking for help so...

I’d like to know what info you have, thank you.

Exercise is good for BP?
Sure enough it is and I can personally affirm that it is the cure!
Walk. Park further from the store you are going to, walk around your property, get a dog and walk!
I went from high blood pressure to 114/72 and I was super high and I am older than 2ndDivisionVet. Also watch what you eat, no soda, drink water and get up and move.

She has good and bad days, and her speech has been affected. She still has to work or we’d be homeless in about a week. I was just getting going on some work-from-home stuff sponsored by another FReeper, btw. I am determined to keep up with that unless I’m hospitalized, so I can contribute beyond my VA disability. I want to thank you and your husband again for helping us out when we were in a bad situation!

I might suggest getting an Ipod/Iphone and loading it with your favorite music and Mark Levin. Helps pass the time.

This is for your information.

Basically stand as much as you can, don't sit if you don't have too.

Sitting can be more dangerous than smoking, study shows

I thought the HCTZ had to be combined with something else. Mine is HCTZ and Lisinopril.

Back in Feb. I got my yearly blood test. The regular doc told me my liver enzymes levels were 10 times higher than normal. Specialist time.

Major blood work.

Then an ultrasound.

Then they called and wanted a biopsy.

But they weren’t telling me anything. So I went back in to see the doc. I told him I needed to know what they were looking at/for. No insurance. Limited funds. I told him if they thought it was cancer I wasn’t spending another dime on his worthless butt. What?? No man, if you tell me I’m done I’m not spending another dime on useless doctors, I’m going to Disneyworld...

And I do have a (serious) chronic liver disease and it’s prolly gonna kill me. But the kicker is I was taking a stop smoking drug and it was what elevated the enzyme levels. And when they started all this testing that no smoking thing went right the hell out the window...
