Well today is the fir major day of the Rainbow Family gathering. On average I have see 10 Vehicles on tow trucks going past my house daily since 2 weeks ago, there has been 1 birth, 1 death, and countless calls for EMS services. The original "Rainbow Family" has left because of an influx of New age Hippies causing trouble. I only had the one major incident on my property, however daily I remove at least one 65 gallon contractor garbage bag worth of trash left at my driveway, so that is costing me, luckily I can burn that. 2 have been arrested for urinating on the produce at the local grocery store hoping they could salvage it after the store throws it out. Countless cases of shoplifting and panhandling. I'm not sure if my little town can ever wash away the odor of patchouli. It has become an infestation that will take a long time to recover from, I'm usually nice to everybody but I have no love for this scum that has infected my community. If anybody out there lives in an area that they are planning on having an event in, Heed this warning! They will use, abuse, and cost you town greatly, do whatever it takes to make sure they are not welcome.

They came to CO in the early 70’s and were known as the “Rainbow Family of Living Light” then. They left a Forest Service campground in shambles. I hope they never come to CO again.

Thanks, I googled them right after I replied to that post, and saw their fancy-schmancy website.By all accounts they look like the current 30-and-under generation’s answer to 60s hippies,with the difference of having NO political awareness whatsoever, and no agenda to speak of except getting together periodically, getting stoned and making a mess. Classic idlers and slackers looking for a sweet face ( “World Peace”)to put on their indolence.
Cougar Washington is closest town...be respectful to the locals..pick up garbage and no spanging please!!!!

Numbers? Thousands - or if you meant phone numbers, none are known. They have a web-site. They meet every year over Independence Day (several days each side). They almost always use National Forest land, changing sites every year. Not sure anyone funds them. The Forest Service has fined individuals in the past, for not getting proper permits for gatherings over 50 people. They claim they aren't a group, and that individual members show up on their own to try to get out of the fees.
Everywhere they go, they trash the place. They are the ultimate in hypocrisy. When my wife and I ran into them, we were on an Independence Day week-end outing across southern Idaho. We forgot they were going to be in Stanley. What a mess. My wife tried to use the restroom at a gas station in Stanley (where we were paying customers). The Rainbows had taken it over, and were only letting themselves in. My wife, not one to take any crap from stinkin' hippies, shoved her way in.
