I think you nailed it when you said people have no shame.

I'm not that old but I'm old enough to remember when it was considered shameful to go on welfare, or get special accommodations for a "handicap", etc. It was considered honorable to work for a living even if your job was slinging hash at a diner or loading cargo onto airplanes (as my father did). No form of honest work was looked down upon and people were embarrassed as hell to show up at the supermarket with food stamps, so many made sure that never happened to them.

Now we hand out "food stamps" in the form of an ATM card and people go shopping with them proud as punch and have no desire to go to work lest the gravy train come to an end. Many able-bodied adults are content to grab a government check and sit around the TV at home.

On the subject of supermarkets, one thing I see a lot more of these days is those motorized shopping carts "for the convenience of our customers." Usually you got some fatso wheeling around in those things in sweatpants and sneakers, filling up the cart with Ho-Hos and Twinkies.

A lot of people have no pride in themselves, or feel shame.

I got one for you.... I have heard of this, but this is the first time I have personally witnessed it.... I am in line at the gas station yesterday to grab some smokes and pop, and a woman is in line in front of me with a cute little girl...she has 2 mountain dews, a slushie for the kid and some candy bars for the kid...she whips out her bridge card ( debit card for food stamps here in michigan ) and pays for the goodies. Now, I am willing to pay for the candy for the kid if the card does not work, because every now and then a kid needs a treat. No, the card works and pays for it all.... I think nothing more of it, move up and pay for my stuff...as I exit the store, there is the welfare lady getting behind the drivers wheel of a BRAND NEW CADILLAC...I cannot afford a brand new anything, and both myself and my wife work!!!!

“. . . or get special accommodations for a “handicap”, etc.”

Yup. . .reference handicapped: For many years we have been preached to by the handicapped and their advocates, and bombarded by media that the handicapped can do anything and everything non-handicapped people can do. Wonderful.

But it seems they can do everything non-handicapped can do except walk from the parking lot to the store.

Accommodation, fine, but don't claim special parking privileges and then claim you are not to be treated any different than anybody else.
