In what state is Monroeville? If they’re banning screaming brats, I think I’d like to eat there.

Now, how about the airplanes.

I wouldn’t mind paying extra if it meant I could take to my dinner partner without a screaming kid at the next table.I expect that at McD’s but not at a sit down resturant.

Most restaurants have a sign which reads “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone”. That covers a lot of bad conduct that can happen from adults and kids.

Pennsylvania, just east of Pittsburgh.

There is a steak house in Traverse City that does not allow youngsters in after 9 PM.
I applaud that.

Grandpa got out of his chair, picked my cousin up and took him out to the car and shut the door. The kid was still screaming. Grandpa stood there smoking his cigar and told him “when you decide you are done screaming, we will go back inside”. LOL About 15 minutes later they returned and not a peep came out of the kid.

The perfect solution. When our kids got too cranky, and started smarting off, they were sent to their rooms. I told them they could be as cranky and snotty as they wanted, but I didn't have to listen to it, and when they got a handle on themselves, they could join us again. Worked like a charm, and we have four terrific young adults now, who actually enjoy being with us!

It isn’t impossible to have small kids who are well behaved, but many parents won’t bother with civilizing them.

It’s about freedom. The restaurant owner has the right to make such a call, and any potential customers who disagree have the right to choose to eat elsewhere.

I went to a pub in the English countryside once that had a “No child” admitted sign and despite the smoking laws, everyone was lighting up. When I asked for a whiskey the owner simply handed me the bottle.

Lovely food; beautiful pub, fun friends - what a day!

It's as simple as that. No kids policy? I would more inclined to eat there...

It’s the restaurant’s choice—be it race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, or if they just don’t like your looks. Like your home, it’s their property, and they can admit whom they please.

I agree wholeheartedly.

“Hey, the world goes round and round”

Uh... you’re going to be old some day, I mean you do plan on growing old, don’t you? And when you do, you’re going to maintain the same standards of public decorum and courtesy as before, right?

Now... I haven’t set foot in a movie theater since the 1970’s, they were already becoming anarchy zones. The idea of old people becoming a disruption is new to me. Or is this what happens when flower children enter the `golden years’? Just asking.

I just don’t think that old folks pose the same threat to decorum in public venues as disruptive young people do. That is, unless our theaters and restaurants are going to soon be invaded by roving gangs of “Hell’s Grannies”.

Anyway, can we agree that screaming kids are usually the product of negligent parents?

This is a policy that I wish more restaurants would adopt. The problem is not so much the children but the parents who refuse to properly control and discipline their children. Personally, my wife and I never had an issue with our children in restaurants, the one and only time they acted up (in an IHOP back in the mid 1990s), we immediately removed them to the car and they ended up having cold Cheerios for breakfast at home.

We go to restaurants a lot and many a meal has been disrupted by unruly children. With the prices being charged, it is not something the customers should have to put up with. Parents with young children should stick to the Chuck E Cheese anyhow.

An inexpensive solution would be for the establishment to provide
a simple cage located in back of the restaurant near the dumpster.

Parents could drop the little darlings in the cage, enjoy a nice
quiet meal and pick up junior on the way out. Win-win all around.
