We did that once with an elderly female chihuahua. Named her Killer when she was the most timid, gentle dog you can imagine. Vet had a good laugh when he saw her shaking away in typical chihuahua manner, and had been expecting a young snippy male or so.

No one else has commented on this so I’ll say it...anyone noticed this kitten appears to be a Scottish Fold? They have TONS of personality! Maru is a Scottish Fold, albeit one whose ears didn’t actually properly fold.

I’d take this little darling home in a heartbeat. I’m thinking name her something cow themed...our last black and white was a tom named Moo.

My black lab was one of a litter of puppies that had been found sheltering with the purebred mother under an abandoned house. They had a hard time adopting out the mama dog.

... After a long while, they decided to call the poor beast something other than “Shark.” What were those people thinking? Not a good name to a potential adopter who knows how long labs stay in the chewing stage, not a good name to lay people looking at an unknown black dog!

Cute idea with a cow-theme. Perhaps as some have noted the publicity will get this baby adopted to a good home!

I knew a guy who named his two Rottweilers Cupcake and Fifi.

The mini pin was named Mauler.

Black dogs already look “scary” to some and they are usually the LAST dogs to get adopted — so hanging a bad name on the dog can handicap the dog’s chances even more. Shelter workers need to THINK about why they are there and study up on marketing 101.

Rotties are pretty loving but because of the stereotype I can imagine how incongruous some would have thought the names.

No doubt. I can’t stand the type of stereotypical breedism that lumps all dogs of one breed or type into one category and immediately labels them negatively.

I had a Hitler cat once. Took over the entire house room by room. First it took the spare bedroom, then it took over the study. We then gave it a third room thinking it might stop there but no...
