“The hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy”

You can't be serious. Movie was a great disappointment. May have been just OK if I didn't read everything by Douglas Adams or see the much better treatment of the story by the BBC. The movie looked like it was written by him with all of the funny bits left out.

The choice of who played Ford Prefect...was to say...curious.

I liked Good Fellas. Another movie that I thought was excellent was, “Maria Full of Grace”. It’s in subtitles but had me and everybody I know who saw it on the edge of our seats.

A very good movie that’s over 30 years is Inn of the Sixth Happiness and the entire movie can be seen on You Tube and it isn’t divied up into 16 parts.

Wow.
Where do I start?

By decade? By star?
A little bit of both?

The Petrified Forest - Bette Davis, Leslie Howard, Humphrey Bogart. abt 1936 A very classic version of a screenplay adaption of a play.

Casablanca - Bogie, Bacall SB on everybodies list

Gone with the Wind If you can, get the 4 disc collectors edition, there are hours of documentary about what they went through to make this movie

The Defiant Ones - Sidney Poitier, Tony Curtis - Gives alot of insight into race relations, what desperate men are capable of, I consider this to be one of the top ten flicks of all time

Who’s Afraid of Virgina Wolfe - Classic Burton and Taylor at work. The human mind is a scary, scary place!!

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - Taylor, Newman, Ives - this movie is essential for anyone who even pretends to be a movie buff...

12 Angry Men - I always feel like I was cheated when I watch this movie, because the kids was obviously guilty, but they managed to get him off! But a fine performance by Fonda and the rest of the cast, and Sidney Lumet - what can I say??

All About Eve - Bette Davis - not her best performance, but this would be my choice for the finest dialog ever written for a movie - one of the highest Academy Award nominations in history

The Graduate - a well done movie that is more of a commentary of the times, just coming out of the fifties. I never had a hot mother in law, so I don’t know...!

Chinatown - way more because of Nicholson, Dunnaway a,d Huston than Polanski.

The Postman Always Rings Twice - Both versions of this flick are good, the original as well as the remake. But I still like the original better...

The Godfather - He’s gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse - watch this movie or else! Of the three, I think part two is the best. but that’s just me.

Dog Day Afternoon - Another Lumet film, some say Pacino’s best. Attica! Attica!! Attica!!

Cape Fear - another one where I have the original and the remake. But with the remake, there’s no way you can watch it and not have nightmares about De Niro, so that’s the one..

Ooops - back to a few earlier ones -

Rainmaker - 1956 - Burt Lancaster, Katherine Hepburn - this is a fun film to watch mostly because Lancaster is so damn convincing! Too bad he can’t convince us that Katie H at this age is still a hottie... still, you’ll feel good after watching this movie

Wizard of Oz - of course. Is there anybody within like 26 light years of Earth who HASN’T seen it?

Bonnie and Clyde - what can I say? I think about once a year I wake up in the morning after having dreamed about Faye - I would call this one of the best cinematic masterpieces of all time - violence warning, but hey, those guys were pikers compared to these days

Cleopatra - Taylor almost died making this movie. If you can, get the Five Star Collection - hours of documentation on making it

Rosemarys Baby - this movie is flat out scary.

The Exorcist - get the version with the additional 12 minutes. **DISCLAIMER** If you pee your pants watching it, don’t blame me!

The Verdict - another Lumet film. Probably Newmans best ever

Now I’m probably about 20% of the way through my list but I got stuff to do today...

;-)

In fairness to Mos Def very few actors I can think of would have been good for that role. Somebody who would make a good Dr. Who or a complete unknown actor would have fit the role better.

I thought Mos Def was pretty good in “16 Blocks.”

My late wife went with some friends to see "Moonstruck." She said tht I wouldn't enjoy it all. Then a couple of weeks later, she was out of town, so, with nothing else to do, I went downtown in Buenos Aires to one of those old fashioned real movie houses and watched it. I thought "Moonstruck" was an excellent movie.

Among my favorites: They Were Expendable, The Long Grey Line, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. For a foreign movie, I liked "Come and See," made in the USSR in the mid 80s. In Russian and German with English subtitles. Really showed the brutality of the Eastern Front.

I never thought about it that way, you’re right.

Godfather, “ Make him an offer he can’t refuse.”

Or another great line from Animal House..” The Negroes stole our dates!”
