ABC receives complaints about Chaz Bono's addition to 'DWTS'

"Dancing With the Stars" aims for provocative casts, and Chaz Bono's addition to the show has already yielded strong reaction -- some of it ugly.

Bono, the only child of Sonny Bono and Cher, was born a woman but legally changed his gender and name last year. The announcement Monday that he would join the highly rated ABC dance competition immediately made him one of the highest-profile transgendered people in the world.

It also brought to the surface prejudices about Bono and others who have changed their gender, judging from the "Dancing With the Stars" message board. In hundreds of comments, Bono was the most common subject.

But for everyone who vented disgust -- or questioned whether Bono would dance with a man or a woman -- there were many who defended Bono and accused his critics of bigotry.

Bono's casting is only the latest to make a lighthearted reality show the impetus for deeper discussions about values, tolerance, bigotry and politics. Gay "American Idol" contestants have opted not to announce their sexuality, perhaps out of concern about alienating intolerant viewers. And Bristol Palin's "Dancing" casting two seasons ago led many to vote for or against her based on her mother's politics.

I have to admit that I watched DWTS once when Paul McCartney's ex was on. I had a morbid fascination with seeing whether her peg leg would fly off while dancing. To my amazement, it didn't!! And she wasn't half bad at dancing.

Then you'd really get a kick out of Stephen Hawking.

You can bet that ABC has already done market research and has found that having Chaz BOno on the show would increase viewership.

I do not want to nail down the trans-whatever definitions or any of that. I really don’t want to think about any of it.

I want to live and let live, but don’t want to have this forced down our throats.

I have to wonder if ABC has an agenda, to put out this trans-whatever person, and dare anybody to say anything about he/she/it. The way political correctness works, we’re all assumed to be liberal, and if we’re good liberals, we won’t say anything. Only evil Neanderthal bigots would say anything, according to politically correct ideology.

And maybe ABC wants to incite controversy, to pump up ratings. They either want to prove how liberal they are, or inflate the ratings.

I want to see if that inane comedian, Kathy Griffin, chastises Chazz Bono over her/his morbid obesity. She mercilessly went after Bristol Palin over weight.

Imagine going through your entire life not acknowledging, whether willingly or not a simple fact we all take for granted. Look in a mirror and ask yourself: Who am I?

Agree completely. The Hippocratic Oath says "I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone."

Any "surgeon" who destroys healthy tissue on the whim of an arguably disturbed individual should have his license reviewed.

And I won't be surpassed if "Chas" has his/her operation reversed.

There have been a number of these Transsexuals who changed their mind and reversed the operation.

And, just my opinion, alot of whom regret their decision but didn't have the $$$ to reverse the procedure and couldn't live with themselves ... literally and killed themselves.

One thing to remember is that the logic of earlier times figured that giving a sex-change was among the ways they figured it would be okay to punish or correct homosexuality, when you look at the fact that there was such a high rate of people who so much as received hormones of the opposite gender, sometimes with additional surgery, you wonder why many homosexuals aren’t so disgruntled with the kind of procedure once used to “correct” or “punish” their own behavior. The people who received this operation had a hard time seriously living with themselves, what disturbs me even more is that people can submit to this punishment, and not enough is done to discourage people from trying it voluntarily.

I think pressure from the extreme militant homosexual cliques believe ANYTHING from normal society and specifically anything from tradition religion is to rejected out of hand and the confused individual must act upon his urges as it is "natural."

Therefor if he/she feels like a "woman inside" it is not because there is an hormonal dysfunction which can be treated conventionally. Radical activists within and without the medical community push for the extreme measure and allow the inner female to escape the male shell and"blossom" via radical sex change operation.

The ABC board is all pro-mental illness so they are censoring the comments. Mostly attacking christian views as if that is the only reason to object to this sick girl appearing on national TV.

Attack the sponsors, get their attention.
