Gophers coach Jerry Kill suffered a seizure on the sidelines with 20 seconds remaining in the Gophers' game against New Mexico State on Saturday, rolling around on the ground as paramedics tried to hold him down.

“dont put things in their mouth, just turn them on their side.”
Thank you! Bless you!
Putting something in the mouth of someone having a seizure is likely to hurt them not help. This myth needs to be put down. Terrible that the media still perpetuates this myth. Saw another TV show using this same myth again recently.
I’m epileptic and have several seizures a week.
Turn the person on their left side, and make sure there’s nothing close that they might hurt themselves on.
Why the left side Tigermoth? I never heard that - just to the side, my son has upwards of a dozen a day (he has a VNS implant that helps minimize them). His first one we actually witnessed was right after Sept 11, 2001 but I think he had one a few days prior, he was “kicking” the wall or so I thought at the time and just thought he was being a typical teenager.
As fate would have it he had a pretty decent one this morning with him ending up in the ER with nine stitches on the hose, seven in the corner of his eye lids. Somehow the eye itself escaped damage but there was blood everyhere.
Stay safe!
Have you tried the ketogenic diet ? They say it can be a miracle recovery for epilepsy. Just wondering if it works for everyone. I eat that way for general health.
Coach Kill still raises money for cancer patients here in Southern Illinois where he used to coach. God bless Coach Kill.
just a note re:seizures. Our niece started having seizures at 18 but pretty well controlled until 28 when she was switched to a generic medication. She passed away from a seizure during the night and some research came out a couple months later that the generic meds were 30% less strong.
“Why the left side”
I believe it has to do with your stomach being on the left. If you are on your right side, you’re more likely to have stomach acids (and whatever else is in your stomach) moving up to choke you.
Glad to hear the VNS helps. That’s the only option I haven’t tried. I have felt that if they worsen, I’ll problem give it a try. But with only a 30% chance of a 50% reduction in severity and frequency, I’m not keen on the invasive proceedure. And the coil placed on the Vegus nerve usually can’t be removed if it doesn’t work.
I’ve had my share of the ER visits for stitches - broke out some of my teeth a couple times too. Thank goodness your son’s eye is okay, that’s scary.
“Have you tried the ketogenic diet ?”
Yes, and a few others, but unfortunately it doesn’t help in my case. Although I feel that limiting carbs really helps your health in general. The ketogenic diet does seem to work better for children than adults.
There are 60 types of epilepsy, so it can be difficult to determin exactly what type you have, to make sure you get the best treatment available for you. They misdiagnosed my type for 30 years before getting it right. Some some of the meds they had me on before, actually made it worse.
“... the generic meds were 30% less strong.”
Yeah, there’s even difference from one generic manufacturer to another. You can have your doctor specify that only the name brand be dispensed by the pharmacy.
I didn’t know that about generics. How old was your niece? My sister is 38, she only started having siezures around 30, because of renal failure and she gets dialysis. This was her first one for a couple of years.

She was okay.
