Many, many years ago, when my children were rather young,
I would read the classics to them (with dramatic flair, of course.)
So, one stormy night, as we all sat on the sofa, lights turned very low,
I introduced them to "The Raven", by Edgar Allan Poe.

The kids were snuggled tightly against their mother
The only light was dimly lit
And it was thundering and lightening outside.

As I got to this very tense moment where the poem reads....
'there came a rap, rap, rapping
At my chamber door'....

Someone pounded on our front door with three loud raps!
The kids and I all screamed, and almost hit the ceiling in total shock!

(It was a neighbor wanting to borrow some sugar!)

So...........with this post, I fondly remember
A spooky night of closeness with my children,
And wish you ALL a 'spooky' Halloween!

He is quite a talented actor - and this video was made 28 years ago. I watched many videos of “The Raven”, before I decided on this one - so well orated by William Shatner.

The first time I heard “The Raven” was when I was in the 6th grade. My teacher, Mr. Mitchel, read it to the class, actually they combined both 6th grade classes for the reading.

I remember how he read it with such feeling and dramatics. That was a long time ago, but it will always be stuck in my memory banks.

“Quote The Raven, nevermore”.

Going to get an early post for Sunday morning here at Amy’s Place.

I received this in an e-mail on Friday and decided that this would be the perfect place to post it.

As I’ve mentioned before, the first solo I sang in church was “How Great Thou Art” way back when I was a sophmore in high school and this song has always had a very special place in my heart.

I think you’ll really enjoy this one...

How Great Thou Art - Barbershop Multi-track

Here is one that is unbelievable. This barbershop singer made this tape where he sings all four parts. There is not ever a miss cue. What a voice he has, such talent, & unbelievably perfectly on tune. Now that is a voice range to be able to sing bass, baritone, lead, & tenor—not even to say he did it all together with various tapings of himself. That is creativity at its best! I know you’ll enjoy this!

Thanks, Diver Dave! I LOVE Multi-tracking! I did three Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas by myself using this technique. It was a lot of fun!

I LOVE that Hymn.

Father Of Lies
October 30, 2011

Satan’s sway over mankind began when he turned the minds of Adam and Eve against God. In order to pull it off, he had to lie to them about God—and they had to fall for it. In that defining moment, he lied to them about God’s goodness, God’s Word, and God’s intentions (Gen. 3:1-6).

Satan is still up to his old tricks. Jesus said that when the devil “speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar” (John 8:44). It should not be surprising, then, that when trouble interrupts our lives, the father of lies whispers in our ears and suddenly we are questioning God’s goodness. When we are told to follow His commands, we wonder if His Word is really true in the first place. When Jesus tells us things like, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth” (Matt. 6:19), Satan tells us that the good life is about piling up things here, causing us to doubt God’s good intentions.

Our problem is that we, like Adam and Eve, believe Satan’s lies. And when we do, our loyalty to God is compromised. Then our enemy slithers off to his next assignment, leaving us alone to face our regrets and the realization that his lies have seduced us away from our truest and dearest Friend. Who have you been listening to lately?

Satan can catch you by surprise
And stop you in your tracks,
So keep on guard and trust God’s Word,
Resist his strong attacks. —Branon

The power of Satan is no match for the power of God’s Word.

Read: John 8:37-47

When [the devil] speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. —John 8:44

And though we’re tempted to despair
We know we’re kept within His care.
