Waiting For Superman is an excellent documentary about how our education is rotting to its core. I remember when it came out and visiting its website and wanting to see it. Now it's on Epix and you can watch the whole thing online for free just by signing up. They also have some other cool films like True Grit, Star Trek and Iron Man 2 you can watch for 2 weeks -- no strings attached.

Again, I could care less about premium movie channels, but you really should see Waiting For Superman!

Usually when I see a post or thread about “go to website XYZPDQ.com to see a movie or show for free”, I’m highly skeptical and ready to hit the “abuse” button, as it’s usually some pirate site based in Russia or such.

However, upon running some internet searches, it appears that Epix is a real and legal site, as it is being backed by movie studios themselves.

Kewl! It is included in my DishNetwork subscription. I remember watching “Teenagers from Outer Space” when I was about eight . . . scared the bejeebies outta me. Especially the ray gun that left only a skeleton floating in the swimming pool.

Thanx for the link to "The Cartel". Bookmarking it for when I have 92 minutes to watch. I purchased the "Waiting for Superman" DVD months ago. It was eye-opening.

American public schools have been growing progressively worse. According to the U.S. Department of Education national testing, only 35% of American high school seniors are proficient in reading, based on 2006 data. And fewer than one-in-four, 23%, are proficient in math. On the global stage, America ranks last in educational effectiveness among large industrialized countries despite the highest spending per student in the world. It presents a conundrum: How has the richest and most innovative society on earth suddenly lost the ability to teach its children at a level that other modern countries consider "basic"? If the problem is that we're not spending enough on schools, which many people believe, it's instructive to study the U.S. state that spends more than any other per student: New Jersey With spending as high as $483,000 per classroom (confirmed by NJ Education Department records for 2005-06), New Jersey students fare only slightly better than the national average in reading and math, and rank 37th in average SAT scores. And not even half of NJ's high school freshmen, despite the state's enormous "investment," are academically ready for college four years later. Cox added Epix to my cable about year ago. Yep, Epix had a one-week trial period. Nope, most of the good titles, though mentioned on the website, were actually not available for viewing.

Epix came on with a roar and soon whimpered out.

Most of their titles ARE actually available through Netflix or Amazon or Crackle.

I don’t subscribe to the Cox TIER that has Epix.
It may have improved since the short online trial.
