Introduction
On October 6th of 2011, a very important test of Andrea Rossi's E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) will take place in the city of Bologna, Italy. Attending the test will be invited scientists from around the world, including staff from the University of Bologna.
This test may be the most important so far, due to the fact many of the issues that remain unresolved in previous tests, will potentially be resolved. For example, one issue that remained unresolved in tests earlier this year was the issue of steam quality. In this test, the quality of steam will not be an issue. This is because the output of the E-Cat will be a closed circuit, in that the water will be turned into steam, allowed to heat a second flow of water through a heat exchanger, be recycled, and then used again. By removing this issue, the most controversial subject of debate will be eliminated.
Additional issues are also expected to be resolved by this test.
- The E-Cat module will be taken apart (except for the reactor core) so the components can be measured and weighed.
- The test will last for 12 hours or longer.
- The E-Cat module will be allowed to operate in self sustain mode -- with no input power -- for an extended period of time.
- Better measurement and data acquisition techniques will be utilized.
For the next few days, all news and information about the test will be posted below, in as close to real time as possible. Please share and spread the link to this webpage, as we plan to be

Here are some other links: http://www.e-catworld.com/ has some running links on the testing, as does http://ecatnews.com/.
The PESwiki link and others also have some new discussion of a test on July 7 of the ‘fat’ E-cat design (like those being used in the 1 MW demonstration reactor) not seen before. There are also photos being posted, etc., but I don’t have access to twitter so I’m missing some of the updates. Apparently the participants are being shown the 1 MW reactor setup as well as the module being demo’d today.
I sincerely hope this thing is real. I love to see someone succeed on a great untertaking. If it is real it will be bigger than anything in my lifetime and probably bigger than the internal combustion engine in terms of lifting burdens from the human race. Here’s hoping it is not a fraud. Per the first link in your post #2, e-cat is running selfsustained now for 4 hours.
That is interesting and makes me wonder if the thing runs without external power input how do they stop it? Is there some kind of control rod or something that halts the reaction?
Duh! I wasn’t thinking. Obviously they shot off the Hydrogen.
Haven’t the foggiest, but I still find this very interesting.
Hm. Shut down after four hours, as planned? Did anyone else hear about this plan beforehand? I wonder if everyone goes to dinner and leaves the 'cooling' reactor unattended....
I want this to be real, but the way things keep happening to interrupt the tests gives me that ol' Nigerian feelin'.
Twitter feed states this was planned, with “operations” to end at “00:00” — http://twitter.com/#!/22passi
That tweet was only posted about an hour ago. It’s currently 9:40 PM in Italy, so the “operations,” whatever they are, have another two plus hours to run. Or if 00:00 is 00:00 GMT, three plus hours. It may be that I simply missed mention of the ‘planned shutdown’, but the reference to 00:00 isn’t it.
Check the “Comments” at the first link in post#2
That’s where I got my info
Two entries below the 00:00 reference is the reference to the planned shutdown. Interesting reports, though some subsequent reports are in Italian.
Looks like people are very happy with the results, which raises the obvious question - what has happened to all the seagulls?? ;-)
Supposedly we'll see more and better details tomorrow.
Where are those comments? I didn’t see them on the PESwiki page. It is frustrating dealing with everything coming on this subject from Italian, Greek, Swedish... everything but English it seems. But that’s a very obnoxiously anglo-centric attitude of mine. :-p
Thanks, Liberty
