Great Hemingway’s ghost!
I am warming myself comfortably in the toasty heat of the hellfire you have wished upon me ! And mine. And the entire civilization from which me and mine are descended.
Salud !
I suggest peppercured venison backstrap... you will give up potatos. Keep it raw, dog.
Some of the best is right before it turns.... yeah...
“That matador is a craven coward. I suggest you go kill a puppy- it takes about the same level of skill.”
Cultural illiteracy. Read and learn my friend. It may not be pretty, but it’s how they like to do it. They don’t care what you think.
Sounds to me that you’re not quite an “ex” hippie.
Your post makes you seem foolish. Bodies made in Gods’ image are not worthless, even if their treatment of animals does not meet your standards.
“Sounds to me as if you delight in seeing humans get their comeuppance [as you see fit]and dont bemoan their pain, yet you moan and gnash your teeth over the bulls plight.”
One HUGE difference. The matador has a choice, the bull doesn’t.
Go sign up for PETA, little girl.
Study the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39 to see how an otherwise educated people, previously defenders of Christendom against the Moorish hordes, could descend into utter barbarism. Photographic evidence horrifies to this day.
By the way, the Spanish bullfight is well attended by both sexes. And Hemingway, a sadistic man by any standard, was a huge aficionado of “la corrida”. Read his For Whom The Bell Tolls.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love chard, and mustard. love a pot of greens!
Love bambi on the grill.
And wild ole porky pig, too.....
Beef, its whats for dinner.
Venison, its whats for dinner...
Pork, its whats for dinner.....
Vegans... they never return your calls....
I’m guessing you mixed up your Hemingway classics. “The Sun Also Rises” is set in Pamplona and has lots of bullfighting references. “For Whom The Bell Tolls” has almost none, focusing mostly on the Spanish Civil War. “The Sun Also Rises” was written about 10 years before the civil war.
“Death in the Afternoon” and “The Dangerous Summer” are both non-fiction books that focus on bullfighting.
When I was in Spain, I enjoyed the bullfighting, and went to 4 of them during the month I was there, plus I watched a few in Madrid on TV. I focused mostly on the matador and his skill rather than the bull. I dunno, I can’t imagine hurting a dog or even a squirrel, but bullfighting didn’t seem to bother me.
Who cares?
I am not interested in your theology, and I am certainly entitled to my opinion.
These are the same “civilized” people who performed the auto-da-fe on innocent people who committed the crime of being Jews, in the NAME of said Christendom. And who cut off the feet of Acoma Indians who refused to convert. And countless other horrendous acts to force their religion on people.
“...Cowboys and Zoo Keepers don’t torture and kill their the animals...”
According to the sick ALF types it is all the same. If you relish the mauling of a human who is participating in the ritual slaughter of a bull (which provides meat for the poor) then you are as nutty as the ALF types. You folks who cheer and laugh at a mauled matador are truly sick, brainwashed, Leftist, zip wads.
Easy now. There’s a huge difference in not believing that animals should be tortured, and following those idiots in PETA.
Bullfighting may be Spanish culture, I still believe it is inhumane, and cruel. The only saving grace for the “sport” would be if they carved him into steaks after the kill, and the meat was consumed. I don’t know if that happens or not.
PETA morons believe that animals have rights. That is absolute BS because you can not have rights without the responsibilities that go along with them, or the eventual ability to have said responsibilities as with children.
That said, we are stewards of animal welfare, It is our responsibility to care for and manage the lives of animals. That includes not being cruel to a creature that feels pain.
Hunting is a combination of sustenance, stewardship, and sport. Real hunters attempt the quickest cleanest kill possible.
Comparing those of us that believe that humane care and control of animals is a responsibility handed down to us from no less than God, to a bunch of leftist loons who believe animals are more important than humans, don’t believe in God, and are responsible for the tortured death of millions of animals every year because of their refusal to face the “heavy lifting” of the stewardship part of the equation, in an insult of the highest order.
I would, respectfully, suggest a delay filter between the posting activity, and the engagement of thought process.
