That logic doesn’t hold up for me. Take for example, one meal. I eat a steak and a small salad, and the vegan eats a large salad, say triple the size of mine. In my meal, I contributed to the death of a fraction of one bovine, and then however many creatures died to bring my salad to the table, say 10. That means I am responsible for the death of maybe 10.01 animals. The vegan is responsible for the death of 30 animals. By adding meat to the diet, I’m killing fewer animals, since agriculture kills animals at a much higher rate to deliver a similar amount of nutrition.

Do you actually believe that the average American diet consists of 4-6 oz of meat? I think the smallest serving for example at Outback is what, 8-10oz? I’m thinking on the big picture of mass processing of meat to fulfill the average consumption.

I do not backfill my lack of meat with more vegetables...I don’t see many overweight vegans. If you’re dieting as such, you’re probably also not eating all that you list below, I certainly do not.

Your assumption is that a vegan would backfill the lack of meat with a “triple size” salad. We don’t know this for a fact and I personally have have not backfilled lack of meat intake with a triple size salad or additional veggies/grains.

I’m not trying to get anyone to change their mind on eating meat, I’m just saying that there are some assumptions that vegetarians and vegans consume exponentially larger portions of veggies to make-up for the lack of meat. This isn’t necessarily true in all cases. Vegans I have met appear to barely eat enough to live, they are like waifs.

That’s true, I did assume that they would have to eat a lot more food in order to survive in anything resembling a healthy shape. You’re right though, most vegans aren’t healthy at all, so they probably are not chewing alfalfa all day like they aught to be.

Actually, since they will die sooner than meat eaters, they might actually kill fewer animals over their lifespan. I wonder why they don’t use that selling point?

That’s how most liberals talk, worrying about what other people eat. I know you’re not a liberal (you’re here). There’s no way to argue about this without looking at what each person actually eats. The point of the OP is that vegans don’t really avoid killing animals with their *diet*. If they do it for health and think it’s healthful, that’s fine. If they want to tell the rest of they are morally superior to us because they don’t harm animals, it appears they are wrong.

Actually, a lot of the people I know who tell me they are vegan eat a lot of junk. I think they might just be trendatarians....
