I can certainly understand why you are upset. The moral superiority on display is breath taking. I think it’s narcissism. These people have to consider themselves superior one way or another and so they create situations to imagine themselves as superior. I think this lies behind true racism as well.
Lately I have been thinking about this very issue - the left’s superior self-image. They seem to believe that giving poor people a welfare check should entirely sustain the poor - the left does not seem to acknowledge or even know that the ‘little people’ also need to have purpose, to feel like their lives matter and that they contribute something to society. How is this not obvious? Your leftist friend would not consider meals without a job, purpose in life, or contribution sufficient to sustain THEM but they really think that the poor really just need ‘free stuff’ without any reason to get up in the morning. Like dogs or cats - the left seems to think we should just ‘leave food out for them’ and tell ourselves we are caring people for doing so. They ignore the rage of the slums and think it’s our fault - not the natural result of treating people like dogs or cats. Oh I know there are plenty of poor who have tried to adjust to the life offered by the left - they aren’t happy or healthy.
I guess the rich (among the left) really are ‘different’, aren’t they?

You are not only confused about *where* you are, you are evidently confused about *when* you are. Hint, this is the United States of America, the 21st century. It most emphatically is *not* Europe, the 12th century. You are *not* Milord/Milady, and I am *not* a serf, and for d-d sure not *your* serf. You may think you're all that, and a bag of chips besides, but I am singularly unimpressed with you, and the size of your ego. The current welfare state leads to extremely low self-esteem among minorities. At the risk of sounding racist, have you ever noticed how many blacks are grossly overweight? I see it every time I go grocery shopping, since I live in a now predominantly black area.
That obesity stems from a sense of low self-esteem and it is a snowball effect. The worse they feel about themselves the more they overeat and the cycle continues.
And then Mooshelle comes along and starts preaching about what they should and should not eat...completely ignoring the emotional toll that making them dependent on the government and virtual slaves to the state has taken on them. It’s positively criminal what the left has done to the blacks. But you won’t hear the left-wing media talk about it. It’s just not politically correct to do so.
Big government has also done similar damage to Native Americans, btw. Let’s face it. What..among everything big government has gotten its’ greedy paws into...has big government NOT screwed up? I can’t think of a thing, offhand.
