Anybody else sick of this "cross the plane" NFL rule?

Posted on 11/20/2011 1:11:56 PM PST by djf

I'm sick of this BS. Last weekend I saw probably three plays that were called TDs, even though the player never set foot in the endzone.

They just called a Bengals play not a TD even though the player was plainly in possession, steps into the endzone, then drops the ball after he's knocked to the ground!

Either make the same standard apply to the sidelines or stop ‘break the plane’ at the goal line.

Every year they change the rules to make the NFL less like football.
I guess sooner or later they'll just come out on the field wearing dresses.

>>Football is starting to seem like a stupid sport to watch.

Starting? I figured that out in the 80s.

Still like college ball, but the NFL, not so much.

You can fly over the corner and into the sideline and its still a TD without ever touching the ground, but you need 2 feet in otherwise? How is that consistent?

I’ve always wondered about it.

oh, please, soccer REALLY sucks. Bunch of falling down drama queen pansies. And a team is penalized for having a fast break. [oooooo.....you outran us, ‘snot fair....] Screw that offside rule.

I’m a Ravens fan, and I have to agree with you that that should have been ruled a touchdown. I’ll take it, though, because we’ve been robbed by bad calls, too. I guess it all comes out in the wash.

Rationally you are correct. However, bread and circuses has now become the rule. “The Games” keeps the mob largely quiet. That is not to say that there will not be occasional riots like those that occur after South American soccer games.

That’s why I watch the kind of football that is played with one’s foots and not with armpits!

Well, it was a good game, and it could have gone either way.

I just don’t like the idea of “officiating” being what makes the difference between a win and a loss.

Of course being from near Seattle, I’m still po’d about the officiating in that Superbowl (and I’ve heard TWO of the refs in that game admit they made mistakes that changed the outcome!)

Grrr....

;-)

If you’re carrying the ball, it seems like the faintest shadow of a scintilla of the ball approaches the aura of the goalline - or the pylon - and it’s a touchdown. But if it’s a pass play you must show full possession of the ball into the following week or it is not a touchdown.

I agree that I don’t like the rule but if they are fair with everybody, I suppose I am okay with it.

The second rule is that - if it’s really close, the home team will get the call unless it’s in Houston or against Pittsburgh. The Steelers *always* get the call - they’ll just get fined later.

I agree that taxpayers should not be paying for stadiums for millionaires and billionaires to play. lol. In Dallas the taxpayers have now built a city-owned hotel. geesh.

They shouldn’t have planes on the field. What will the FAA say about this rule?

The goal line actually runs out of bounds as well.

Where they don’t have any rules at all, ... just yellow & red cards.

Boy are you ever right. It’s called a TOUCHDOWN. That means you have the ball and can touch it down. If you can’t do that then it’s not a score.

They have been talking about breaking the plane of the goal line at least since I was 8, so unless you’re talking about a rule change that took place 35+ years ago...

Now defining exactly what is a catch is something they have been trying to nail down for while, and I’m still not sure they have it right.
