Monks' once-flourishing business ends

They were dubbed the Millionaire Monks, a small monastic community in rural Wisconsin feted around the world for its wildly successful Internet business selling laser printer inks and toners.

As recently as 2009, the Cistercian Abbey of Our Lady of Spring Bank was projecting annual sales of $3.5 million for its for-profit business, LaserMonks Inc. And their prior and chief executive officer, Father Bernard McCoy, was talking expansion - of both the company and the abbey.

Today, the monks' 15,000-square-foot home on 500 acres in Sparta, Wis., is all but empty. They sold off their belongings - everything from furniture and farm equipment to religious artifacts - at an auction last month. And they have put much of their land and buildings up for sale.

Heh. I didn’t realize at first that that’s a link. Very funny!

Luxor and Ludwig was the name of the cartoon strip. Luxor was a Pharoh hound (snnooty) and Ludwig was the Doberman (dumb, easily tricked by Luxor).

Thanks for the link.

**BROTHER STEPHEN: You do miss certain things, but you would be surprised with what you replace it with, that here I am in a community of six guys, that if all works out I will spend the rest of my life with them and whoever comes after, and I will be buried on that hill, and that falls into an 80-year history of this house and a 900-year history of this order.**

When I looked up LaserMonks.com it brought me to the new company that bought them out:

Not off the top of my head. They’re all through the General Epistles (Timothy, Titus etc.). The OT passages are in Samuel and Kings where the stories of Elijah and Elisha are given. It’s clearest in the story about the axehead that swims after being dropped in the river.

Take any decent concordance and look for virgins, widows, schools + prophets.

Tolerance is the death of western civilization. Love your neighbor as yourself, doesn’t mean you can’t show or tell someone the truth out of love, I suppose if you didn’t give two hoots, you could let folks keep going the way they are.

some monks sell fruitcake while the Christian Brothers sell brandy and other alcoholic beverages, the lasermonks group donated a large portion of their profits to charity and helped people by employing them.

I used to buy toner from them when I had a printer that accepted refills, the one I have now won’t work with a refill. I was surprised to find out they went out of business, I saw the abbott on ewtn a few years ago and at the time, he indicated that his group was doing very well and branching out into more office supplies.
