We are electing a politician.

Politicians are, by definition, people with profound character flaws.

Holding our flawed politicians to a higher standard than we hold the enemy’s flawed politicians guarantees they win.

No, some politicians have "profound" character flaws, others have run-of-the-mill character flaws. I'd prefer we elect those with the latter.

I think it's easily possible to hold politicians with major character flaws in both political parties with equal contempt, yes? Now, if you meant that we hold our officials to a higher standard than the Dems hold theirs, I agree, and we should.
