Vladimir Putin calls John McCain 'nuts' in outspoken attack

Vladimir Putin has launched an extraordinary attack on US Senator John McCain in which he also implicated Washington in the killing of Libyan dictator Col Muammar Gaddafi.

The Russian prime minister called the former presidential candidate “nuts” in response to Twitter comment about Russia’s parliamentary elections that drew allegations of fraud and triggered large protests.

Mr McCain’s tweet read: "Dear Vlad, The Arab Spring is coming to a neighbourhood near you."

Mr Putin turned stony faced when asked about the tweet on his annual televised phone-in.

"Mr McCain fought in Vietnam. I think that he has enough blood of peaceful citizens on his hands. It must be impossible for him to live without these disgusting scenes anymore.

"Mr McCain was captured and they kept him not just in prison, but in a pit for several years," he said. "Anyone [in his place] would go nuts."

“So this is where we are? A high-ranking senator conducting foreign relations via Twitter?”

Yes, we really are.

“Maybe we really are better off that McCain lost the election.”

Actually, he won his last election. But, let’s not overreact now - perhaps the good citizens of Arizona will decide to elect new representation five years from now.

Putin has a valid point regarding McCain.

McCain is the sponsor of the detention bill which includes US citizens on US soil.

He also vocally sided with Obama by-passing congress on Libyan war. He recently called citizens Hobbits and isolationists for not going along with big government agenda.

His McCain Feingold bill helped Soros fund his anti-American propaganda groups and parts ruled unconstitutional...

McCain - and many other establishment types in Congress - need to lose the next election.

McCain is long past needing to retire, for decades he has horse-traded away America.

America needs mature, responsible men who will serve as good stewards in Congress, not men bent on staying in office. Desperately.

Mr. McCain, thank you for your service.

So this is where we are? A high-ranking senator conducting foreign relations trying to start World War III via Twitter?

No, just your average U.S. senator insulting the leader of a foreign country which possesses nuclear weapons. Ironically, I'm more inclined to support Putin's approach to dealing with the so called Arab Spring, which might more correctly be called militant Islam against the Christian world.

McCain fought in Vietnam

But he got famous for wrecking planes and getting caught by the enemy.

I lost count. Did he actually make Ace for the other side?

“So this is where we are? A high-ranking senator conducting foreign relations via Twitter?”

And issuing threats. Yes. If a private person did that to another, it would be a crime, and the offender would be designated a cyberstalker.

Lieutenant Commander McCain died in Vietnam. That man perished under torture, in the service of his nation. What was sent back to us is a broken husk which has been methodically broken down, hollowed out, deformed and conditioned to the satisfaction of masters. While ‘nuts’ is too discourteous a description, ‘unstable’ is too kind.

For once, I agree with Putin.

In fact, I’ll start a collection for Putin to take McKennedy and put him in the nastiest Russian prison in existance.

And then throw away the key.

McKennedy is an ass.

McCain ran ads of him walking the Mexican border, ..border issues and security would be his priority if re-elected.

As senator from AZ he has not spoken out against Fast and Furious or border agents death, Mexican deaths.

He is focused on being senator of the world and Arab spring.

I'm disgusted with the number of FReepers who side with Vladimir Putin, the ex-KGB agent who is destroying whatever semblance of democracy Russia had so he can be autocrat for life over an American war hero and former candidate for President.

So what if McCain is a RINO and disliked on this forum??? He is an American from a distinguished family who has spent his life in service to his country. And you would choose a closet communist dictator over him? God help the USA.

I suspect it’s less a matter of “taking sides” with Putin than disgust at the sheer stupidity, arrogance and wrongheadedness of McCain’s message, plus the fact that it’s typical of the man.
