Drew Brees just broke Dan Marino's single season passing record.

No doubt in my mind that Brees could play for my team.
I get a little frustrated when today's players accomplishments get compared to players of the past.
I get into discussions with my 30 year old son about great running backs. Of course he never got to see Jim Brown play.
But once I point out that Brown did what he did playing only 12 games a season and all he can say is that Jim Brown when Brown played, defensive players were not as big as they
are now.
I get into the same discussion with him about Johnny Unitas.
Jimmy does not think he could be a starting quarterback in today's NFL. I guess it is all relative, but at 1 time, Unitas held just about every quarterback record in the books. I think he still holds 1 for the most consecutive games with a touchdown pass.

And back then, players did not dance around the field every time they made a good play, even an average play. That sort of spoils the game for me. A running back gains 5 yards and makes a 1st down, he acts like he just scored the winning touchdown in the superbowl.

You’re correct that Unitas still holds the record for consecutive touchdowns in a game. Brees is 5 games away from breaking that record. That record may be tough to break.

In 1984, they played 16 games.

Pack has a great secondary. Woodson is arguably the best in the business. Their turnover ratio is ridiculous. Their problems on defense are not in the secondary. If the Packers OL gets back from injuries, I don’t see the Saints as a problem at Lambeau in January. Would likely be a good game, and can go either way if the Pack don’t show up to play.

Imagine the 2004 Chargers team with Brees instead of Rivers. They went 14-2 with a rookie QB.

I once saw a show on TV that was highlighting the athleticism of different sports.

Drew Breeze was the football athlete and asked to throw a football through a tire at 25 yds.. He went 10 for 10.

How many games were in the NFL season when Marino played? If it was not 16, then Brees’s record does not mean that much for now. But I’m sure he has a few good seasons left in him.

16 games for Marino to make that record, 15 for Drew to break it.

Who Dat!

Brees is GREAT, but Aaron Rogers will still come away with NFL MVP honors.

Tom Brady has 4897 yards this season with one game to go. He can break Drew’s record if they sit drew out. I don’t see them benching Drew to rest him nor would he want to sit out. Hopefully Drew retains the record on Sunday.

There is now increasing sentiment that the people who vote for the NFL MVP award may just give it to Drew Brees instead of Aaron Rodgers. Especially now with Brees breaking the NFL single-season passing yardage record.

For a few weeks they have been talking about Brees winning the MVP but said as long as the Packers win, Rogers would win the MVP. RIghtfully so.

When GB lost last week, I knew that Drew would be the leading candidate.

Rogers has had a great year and currently has more touchdowns. I think 5 more than Brees.

Tom Brady still has a shot to break the current record this coming weekend.

Rogers, Brees or Brady (if he breaks the record) would be deserving of the MVP.

Thanks for the info. Scary....seems like only yesterday they went from 14 to 16. I remember 12 game seasons, although they’re all blending into one giant fog.

Rodgers is the choice for the Pro-Bowl.

Clearly his team record (14-1) and his 45 TD passes give claim to the title of MVP.

I am a Saints fan, but give Aaron credit for leading the league with TD passes. Brees is second right now with 41 TD passes.

However, Drew Brees is leading the league in completion percentage at 70.7% (I believe).

The team record should account for more in the MVP balloting -- Aaron has been instrumental in the Packers near perfect season.

Personally, I’m a Cowboy fan but I’m really enjoying the season that both the Saints and the Packers are having. Seems to be the year of the QB with Rogers, Brees and Brady all having stellar years. I don’t think my Cowboys will do much even if they do beat the Giants this weekend and win their division. A Packers-Saints NFC Championship game would be AWESOME!!
