Is it just me or does it look like Newt just mortally wounded himself tonight?

Posted on 01/26/2012 6:13:05 PM PST by publius321

There is NO WAY I will vote for Romney here in Florida. You can check my record here and you will see that I have been emphatically supporting him.

But as I watch this debate tonight, it seems as though he has said and done virtually everything wrong.

Is Santorum the last hope here?

God help us; I wish Ron Paul was not a nut on foreign policy.

I guess we need to focus on the Senate.

I live here in Florida. I will never under any circumstances vote for that lying socialist Romney. I have grave reservations about Newt but was just about to give him my support. I was contacted by some company conducting a telephone poll. They asked me who I support in the primary. I wanted so much to say Newt but something kept tugging on me and I told them I was undecided. Then I heard Newt is going up and down Florida saying that people who want illegals deported are inhumane! There is absolutely no difference between what Newt said and Perry’s identifying conservatives as heartless for believing in American sovereignty.

I differ with Newt on that subject and other things. Perhaps I’ll be banned for saying it, but I cannot support Newt Gingrich in the Florida primary. Not one of the current candidates seem to take a true conservative stance especially on illegals, so I guess there is no one to whom I can give my support.

Newt made a tactical error. He actually believes Florida is like Texas and California. We do have a large hispanic community here but they are very diverse and they are, for the most part, here legally. Few conservative Floridians want to give up our tax money to subsidized the illegals who are here. Nor do we want them to remain here taking jobs from American citizens. For Newt to be running around playing compassionate conservative here is like him giving us a slap in our face.

I think what Mittens and his minions are doing to Newt is more than despicable but Newt has not helped his cause one bit.

Newt should be highlighting the fact that Mitt no longer feels it is necessary to remove Obamacare and given his past history how untrustworthy that makes him. He should bring up the idea that even if Mitt says he is tough on illegal immigration, he is prone to change his mind at any time and cannot be trusted to carry out the will of the people. Newt is going to have a hard time running against Mitt if he continues to support the very things we all know Mitt is going to do.

The GOP nitwits don't have any more votes than anyone else. How are they going to get you to vote for anyone other than whom you want to vote for?

I can assure you I voted for the one I wanted in the Iowa caucus. The GOP nitwits can't control me.

I also will NEVER vote for romney. I don't care if Sarah is his VP. I am praying for a Santorum win, but will vote for Newt. I am SO mad at those pushing romney. I will be changing to independent should romney win. Will then be hoping for a good 3rd party candidate.

Santorum is a little petulant weasel, in the last debate during closing remarks where is no rebuttal time, he attacked Newt and Romney and he did the same thing tonight.

I had to work late tonight.. ALL I saw of this debate was Newt and Santorum's closing remarks.. Newt's was inspiring... Rick's was petty, and small...

I'm still not sold on Newt.... but, damn... he does SAY the right things, in the right way.

Hate that I missed the rest of the evening.

It's you.

Your comments make me think you are more responding to the crowd (stacked for Romney -- surprise, surprise), and not want the candidates actually said.

On substance, Newt kicked butt. In the sound bite world we live in, not sure how much of that actually gets through to the average voter. Sad.

It's not their fault, they are the victims of psychological conditioning by the media of the 1990's, similar to the demonization visited upon Sarah Palin two years ago.

You lost me there.

Bob Dole, the Mr. Rodgers of politics, does not hate Newt Gingrich because he was psychologically conditioned to do so by the media. For example.

And, btw, since so very many people already hate Newt, for whatever the reason, how in Hell's Bells are we going to get this man elected?

Newt is playing this right. There’s no way anybody is deporting 11 million people and NOBODY is going to deport elderly people. Period. it just isn’t going to happen. Mitt is full of bologna if he says he will in fact deport 11 million people. his record on illegal immigration is a collection of half truths, fabrications, and outright lies just like the rest of his so called conservative credentials.

I was more talking about the Facebook/Twitter level people who have been conditioned to hate Sarah Palin and Newt and Dick Cheney, etc. And you’re exactly right...that is a major reason for his high negatives and his electability challenge.

Ahh, I see the “You'll put on you official party kneepads, get on you knees and vote for whatever POS the Republican party establishment decides to shove down your throat or you love Obama, Stalin, Mao and you spit on the flag” crowd is back. I had enough of their crap in 2008, when they said the same thing about McCain. Now we got McCain v2.0 (Romney) and I won't vote for him either because I am NOT a Republican, I'm a conservative (and these days there is a huge gulf between the two). So go ahead and tell me how Obama appreciates my support, it rolls like water off ducks back. At least I'm not a cheap whore for the Republican establishment..

I am a Newt supporter. So far he hasn’t been too fiery. That being said, I refuse to support Romney. If its not Romney, I’m ready to support a Ron Paul third party candidacy.

Romney is a gun grabbing socialist with no integrity. If we have to have a gun grabbing socialist in the Whitehouse, I’d rather it be a Democrat”
.”

I agree with what you said except for the part about me needing to be better coordinated with someone I assume might be a Romney schill or someone against Newt.

I have been extremely clear that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL I SUPPORT MITT ROMNEY and would vote 3rd party conservatibe if we are stupid enough to nominate the one liberal once again under the asinine narrative that he’s the only person who could defeat Obma. I wil not be duped again. That is my line in the concrete.

Newt clearly won, as the only one beside Paul (that’s a guy’s last name, for those of use in Rio Vista) who didn’t recite memorized patriotic crowd pleasing cliches and platitudes. (This is a “great country”? No kidding Sanatorium, no kidding Mittens!) but presented concrete ideas.

Furthermore, we all agree that we’ve got a dumbed down voting populace, right? Well, the mirror is on the wall. I notice a lot of excitement here about the candidates statements on illegal immigration, especially Newt’s “humane” treatment. Raise your naive hand if you think something serious will be (or can be) done under any of these guys about illegal immigrants already here, like it hasn’t been done in 30 years. All that talk about grandmothers is entirely inconsequential, or else no major differences in government policies would be seen among these 4 guys as POTUS.

I see a 4 man race still.

There are 3 candidates I don't like...more and less for each.

But tonight showed me, if I had to, I could vote for them too.

Damn, I hate the GOP...my really screwed up family.

Mittens has adjusted some of his positions to be more appealing to conservatives. I expect to see some analysis on that tomorrow. In fact, Donna Brazelle pointed it out, as the others were having their love fest for Romney.

In fact, on several issues, things that Newt originally said in other debates, some of the other candidates incorporated into their replies.
