I’m not watching the debate, but Newt looks terrible in the photo from tonight, posted upthread.
He really looks like the Sword of Damocles is hanging over his head.
Yikes.
Of course, he’s been put through the wringer in these last days. And maybe he actually didn’t realize just how many people he used to work with hated him?
As I watch this debate, I find myself wishing very much that it was Rick Perry up there staking claim to the outsider position, not the poseur, Mitt Romney.
Now I have to go puke.
Typical Newt, and VERY frustrating.
We spent one 24-hour news cycle talking about school janitors. Then there was the moonbase. And . . .
When is anyone ever going to talk about, say, MASSIVE TAX REFORM?
Not just co-workers, there is a significant pecentage of ALL Americans who have a hatred for Newt. There's a lot of Newt-haters. It's not their fault, they are the victims of psychological conditioning by the media of the 1990's, similar to the demonization visited upon Sarah Palin two years ago.
Newt appeared slightly tired, it happens and may be a function of age. It really was the sudden liveliness of Santorum that made Newt look old. Romney did ok but Santorum got really forceful.
I knew Italians and Greeks in NYC who barely spoke any English and some who spoke none at all. Some communities are insulated, especially for the old folks. For Spanish-speakers our government has made it worse, what with all the pandering, so you end up with bilingual signage and labeling, special classes in school, bilingual ATMs etc etc. The fact is, you don’t NEED to speak English in this country if you speak Spanish. So maybe you need to look at where to place the blame for that.
My view. Santorum won the debate. Mitt probably also won because he didn’t outright loose. Newt has set the bar high for himself - in terms of debates - and he did not meet it tonight. For that alone he lost.
Newt debate weakness has been exposed. He doesn’t not do well in direct conflict with the other candidates. The first half hour of the debate went badly for Newt.
I expect Romney will now win Florida. Newt’s prospects for a primary win may now be mortally wounded.
I say this as a Newt fan. I will be stocking up on the alcohol for Tuesday.
hell, I’m tired of listening to these “sound bite” opportunities masquerading as debates and i can’t imagine having to participate in them every few days..
After 6 months of campaigning, Santorum was the first candidate to finally dismantle Romney over RomneyCare.
That clip from the debate needs to be run over and over again.
Romney is unelectable.
If that attack doesn’t drop him. It’s time to play the magic underpants card.
Ron Paul is a nut on domestic policy as well.
I agree. Newt is done after tonight.
But I gotta tell ya, my candidate Santorum beat the HELL (hope “hell” is ok here) out of Mitt. If those GOP nitwit elites nominate Romney, Obama will slaughter him in the debates. Yes. Slaughter. Mitt will be a bigger disaster for us than McGovern was for the RATS.
Did you also think John Kennedy was crazy by the idea of putting a man on the mooon within a decade? Oh, that’s right, it couldn’t have been too crazy, because we did it.

Santorum is a little petulant weasel, in the last debate during closing remarks where is no rebuttal time, he attacked Newt and Romney and he did the same thing tonight.
When the closing question was asked of each candidate why each would be the best candidate against obama, he chose to instead to attack his opponents.
What a little piss ant.
huh? No, I did not see that. He mentioned what was important to Jacksonville. He has the best ideas on taxes. He has infinite knowledge on foreign policy. Where was this fatal wound? When Romney attacked? yep, Romney might have gained a point or two but Santorum made him own the Obamacare/Romneycare fiasco.

He was a beating victim outnumbered in the media and the crowd....it is hard to win a fixed fight.
