“It’s been a fairly apolitical bunch of speeches as far as I can recall.”

Well, I like Billy Crystal but he did make some joke about GOP Candidates being a Dark Knight, an American Psycho and a Charismatic Crack Addict.

forgot the rest...’You’ll get to choose one on Super Tuesday’.

Everyone laughed a little too heartily I think.

Crystal:

So far we've had puppets and acrobats.
We're a pony away from a Bat Mitzva

That's funny stuff.

They should just make Billy the permanent host.

That was a good line but, sadly, Billy Chrystal has been a little disappointing. He looks awful and is not up to his standards of the past.

"the opening number could get botched."

The opening number was not botched, it was perfect. The sound was botched. Has happened to me and my groups hundreds of times.
It can be many things from technical to accoustics, etc. etc.

Basically that’s what I said in my first post: Billy was funny but the sound guys messed up.

Maybe you missed reading it.......

And I did expect near perfect sound from the opening number of the Oscar broadcast. Maybe I expect too much from “the best.”

Gotta applaud the top of the column, Bender2, you should win an academy award for that!

I do hope Woody Allen wins for Midnight in Paris, that movie was really beautiful.

Loved the music.

Near the start of the show, Billy Crystal made a veiled reference to Kodak’s financial condition.

He called the theater the “Chapter 11” theater.

Later on, he referred to the theater as the “Your Name Here” theater.

Oscar night...a televised event that is equally as boring as a speech by Obama. Celebrated by people who are equally as self-centered and phony. How anyone can watch these greedy, mostly unhappy, immoral, Hollywood egomaniacs pay homage to one another is beyond me.

Most of the audience and award winners are technicians.

Still puzzled why so many here make a fetish out of despising film.

Yet here you are, wasting precious time and energy on it.

Isn't there a thread about a balanced budget, high gas prices or a hot high school teacher doing one of her male students that would be more worthy of your time and attention?

I’m hoping that Gary Oldman wins Best Actor for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”.

Likewise, I was disappointed that the same movie didn’t win for Best Adapted Screenplay.

I heard that... I assume it's because Kodak (the film company) is going through Chapter 11?

Gorgeous theater... we've stood up on that stage, and sat in the front-row seats (on the Kodak Theater tour a few years ago, LOL).

Look at a list of the awards they give. Two male actors, two female actors and the rest are editors, photographers, designers, sound mixers, composers...

I hope Oldman wins as well, but I won't hold my breath. "Tinker Tailor..." seems to have been ignored so far.

I admit I did like Jean Dujardin in "The Artist" as well. I didn't care much for the woman co-star though (forgot her name).

I hope the overrated George Clooney doesn't win for "The Descendants", a movie that wasn't much better than a made-for-TV movie, IMO.
