OWL always love you!

Wise Old Owl
by Connie Hinnen Cook

Like the Solomon of fowl
Sat a wise old owl
Perched in a Sycamore tree,
While the moonlight glimmered
And the starlight shimmered,
These words he spoke to me:

“I guess you've heard
I'm a wise old bird,
And if wisdom you would find...
Always look for the best
And your life will be blest,
To all others’ faults be blind.

“In this life, I know
You will find it so
That if you think kindly of others,
You'll soon find that it's true
They'll think kindly of you...
Praise your sisters and your brothers!”

You may think me a fool -
Owls don't talk, as a rule,
But in solemn tone he said:
“Don't be quick to enact
Words you'll wish to retract,
Dwell upon the good instead!”

Though I hate to admit it,
I could see, once I did it,
What that wise owl said was true.
Your faults I'll overlook
‘Cause it says in The Book
What you sow comes back to you!

Now, if you will agree
With what he said to me,
Then my faults you will ignore...
Like that sage bird said
We'll both come out ahead
If we judge less, and praise more!

You said, "No pictures"
...but the best pictures are always those in our memory bank!
What a wonderful sight for you to have been privileged to behold!

I found this one of many robins in a tree
But found none with hundreds on the ground!

GOOD MILITARY MONDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.

I don't know why everyone wants to get all teary-eyed over my science lesson.

Sheesh! Simple astronomy, people.

"Your evening hasn’t got here yet."
Time Zones, you know?

And that bit about "War's desolation"; who didn't recognize the derivation from my neighbor, Francis Scott Key?

Besides, Billie did all the hard work. Thanks, Billie!

Dingo The Dog

March 6, 2012

Harry Tupper is a fishing legend here in Idaho where I live. There’s a spot on Henry’s Lake over on the east side of the state that’s named for him: “Tupper’s Hole.”

The thing I remember most about Harry, aside from his rare ability to catch those huge Henry’s Lake trout, was his dog, Dingo. Now there was a dog! Dingo used to sit alongside Harry in his boat and watch intently while he fished. When the old fisherman hooked a trout, Dingo would bark furiously until the fish was netted and released.

Dingo’s enthusiasm taught me something: It’s better to get more excited about what others are doing than what we are doing.

So, as I read Philippians 2:4 and think about Dingo, I ask myself: Do I spend time thinking about “the interests of others”? Do I get as excited about what God is doing in and through a friend as I do about what He is doing in and through me? Do I long to see others grow in grace and find success, though it may have been my efforts that made them prosper?

This is the measure of greatness, for we are most like God when our thoughts for ourselves are lost in our thoughts for others. Paul said it best: “Let each esteem others better than himself” (2:3). Is that how we live?

Love feels the sorrows others feel,
It longs to give support,
And love is quick to take delight
In every good report. —D. De Haan
A life filled with love for the Lord and for others is a fulfilling life.

Read: Philippians 2:1-4

Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also the interests of others. —Philippians 2:4

Dear Friends, Sorry I couldn't be with you yesterday but as they say (sorta) "stuff happens." My back didn't hurt enough but this really threw it into a spasm. I did look at all your pretty graphics and poems and I enjoyed them all! Yorkie, I was so glad to see you posting your great graphics and poems again and I hate I couldn't be there., As you all will see below, this pretty well describes my day yesterday! My insurance man will be here today. I have put a note on the door as I'll be upstairs getting ready to go vote, then for a hair appointment. Hope I make it all! This was my little red barn storage building. The riding lawnmower is inside along with tools, etc. It also took out 2-3 pieces of the pool fence. I sure am glad I have a large yard in back as my house didn't get touched.

Praise God you weren’t hurt, and your dwelling was undamaged.

The pictures of your shed reminded me of the fate of the Construction-Site Porta-Potties in Boca after hurricane Wilma (2005).
Many of them ended up in people’s SWIMMING POOLS! Eyew.

Oh, Jaycee! How awful! I am so thankful that the barn was the only thing harmed and not YOU or your home! You must have been scared to death...I sure would have been! :(
