In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
abeyance (uh-BAY-unss) noun
1. a lapse in succession during which there is no person in whom a title is vested
2. temporary inactivity : suspension
Example sentences:
Our plans to go for a bike ride were in abeyance until the weather cleared up.
"The remaining $5,000 of the fine is held in abeyance and will not have to be paid unless additional violations are committed by the Venice baseball program during the probationary period."
From an article by Dennis Maffezzoli in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (Florida), January 23, 2012
Etymology:
"Abeyance" has something in common with "yawn." Today, "yawn" implies sleep or boredom, but years ago it could also signify longing or desire ("Full many men know I that yawn and gape after some fat and rich benefice"Thomas Hoccleve, 1420). The Old French word for "yawn" was "baer," which joined the prefix "a-" ("in a state or condition of") to form "abaer," a verb meaning "to expect" or "await." There followed Anglo-French "abeyance," which referred to a state of expectationspecifically, a person's expectation of inheriting a title or property. But when we adopted "abeyance" into English in the 16th century, we applied the expectation to the property itself: a property or title "in abeyance" is in temporary limbo, waiting to be claimed by a rightful heir or owner.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Sean Hannity is mentioning some heart issues a year ago. I can’t get over the tragedy of this....43 is way to young to die.
This is really a loss. He was one of the few completely willing to mix it up with the left. This is devastating.
Where, Fort Marcy Park?
What I am hearing is he had a heart history since last year, he was walking in his own home last night and collapsed. Paramedics were called and they couldn’t bring him back.
too late, they are dancing. I saw on another thread that he collapsed while walking and they attempted to revive him at the scene and hospital. Hannity referenced heart problems last year i thought i saw also.
someone tweeted that they should retweet the disgusting tweets about his death as that is what Andrew would have done. wow.
i saw that and agree it’s what he would have wanted, but i find that sort of hate very depressing and i can’t do it. i had a hard time reading the stuff he’d retweet that had been directed to him.
A+ for you!
FOX just reported Andrew was walking in his neighborhood when he collapsed and a bystander who witnessed it called 911.
A+ for you too.
So sad, i didn’t know that. i am def going to watch the Five today, i imagine there will be stuff on there.
I never knew Andrew got his start as Drudge’s only employee. Talk about getting in at the ground level. I first really noticed him with the Acorn tapes scandal....had noticed him before, by then I was a fan.
That’s a tremendous loss for the good guys.
May his soul rest in peace.
Finished my little tile job, and the customer actually paid me right away-that doesn’t happen very often in these hard times...
The Carter clone can’t resist-
When some despot’s sacred cow
Is even accidentally offended
He just has to scrape and bow
He just can’t hold in abeyance
His compulsion to apologize-
Even when it ignites a bonfire
And more than one soldier dies
He needs to read the history of
That last little cowardly worm-
Bowing and apologizing to Iran
Promptly lost him a second term...
May God be with Andrew Breitbart’s family. I was just saying yesterday to Ti how so many men these days die of heart failure in their 40’s and 50’s-I lost several friends that way-suddenly, and for no apparent reason-they were not overweight and did not eat unhealthy food, etc-two of them were runners and athletic types. I really think it must be stress added to a heart abnormality they already have, but who knows...
I HOPE he lost his second term long before this.
If I could meet a guy with Allen West’s looks and integrity, I would get tired of being a widow-I do enjoy the solitude, but he is yummy...
As far as I’m concerned, neither of them deserved a first term-but something like this certainly doesn’t help their case with the majority of Americans.
