After years of delays, the big-screen version of the popular Fifties show started filming last month.

And producer Jerry Bruckheimer gave fans a sneak peek at what to expect with the first photo of Armie Hammer as the Ranger and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto.

Looks goofy, although it’s interesting to see Tom Wilkinson in the cast; as a general rule, he doesn’t sign on to stinkers.

I remember the Far Side cartoon where the Lone Ranger discovers after his retirement that the word “Kimosabe” means “Horse’s Rear End.”

I’ve not seen any of the pirates flicks...almost went to the last one because Ian McShane was in it, but figured without having seen any of the earlier ones, I wouldn’t get half of it.

Armie Hammer, eh? He’s descended from the rich oil mogul who founded the Communist Party USA.

It’s short for Armand Hammer, which was originally chosen as a pun on the Communist Arm and Hammer logo of the USSR.

Rather an odd ancestry for the Lone Ranger.
